Rep. Dan Crenshaw Unloads After AOC Toilet Water Claim: ‘She’s Getting Bolder with Her Lies’

Democrats don’t understand the border crisis mostly because they don’t want to understand the border crisis. There’s no better example of this than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The New York congresswoman was among the delegation that visited a controversial migrant detention site in Clint, Texas, on Monday. She emerged telling a tale about how she “was not safe from the officers in that facility” and how women said they were forced to drink out of toilets.

Ocasio-Cortez told reporters that the women she talked to were “put in a room with no running water. And these women were being told by [Customs and Border Protection] officers to drink out of the toilet. They were drinking water out of the toilet.”When asked whether she witnessed this with her own eyes, however, she wasn’t quite as available for a conversation:

In an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday, Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw called out Ocasio-Cortez on her claims.

“It’s sad to see, she’s getting bolder with her lies on this and this is what is actually happening, and this is what the American people need to understand,” Crenshaw told Martha MacCallum.

“People like AOC are operating off of a false premise, and it’s deliberately designed to misinform the American people for her own political ends, right? Remember, first there was no crisis at all, OK? Then it was a manufactured crisis, then it was a crisis completely created by Trump, then there were concentration camps, then people are Nazis.

“Now, she’s saying that Border Patrol harassed her and forced migrants to drink out of toilets?

“This is insanity, this is not true. There’s just no one else corroborating these kinds of reports,” Crenshaw added. “And yet, she’s using it to try to make her case that we shouldn’t have any enforcement, and that we should have open borders. This is really dishonest behavior from a member of Congress, and I honestly can’t believe it.”

And then Crenshaw made the point that every Republican ought to be making on the border crisis when MacCallum asked about overcrowding and “untenable” conditions at migrant detention centers.

“Of course, and these Democrats need to have a reasonable, logical conversation, engage in some problem-solving and then offer an actual solution, because what they’re really doing is trying to stand on their moral high horse and sling arrows at everybody else while not offering a solution,” Crenshaw said.

“Let’s not forget, they fought us tooth and nail against that $4.5 billion of humanitarian aid that the president needed, that [Department of Homeland Security] needed, that [Health and Human Services] needed, in order to better conditions at these facilities, they fought us for months on this.

“They said there was no crisis, we asked for a vote in the House seventeen times, they refused to do it,” he said.

He added that while Democrats talked incessantly about the detention crisis, “I don’t see them offering up any of the space in their own homes, right? They’re not offering a better solution, they’re not saying, ‘Hey, why don’t we put them all up in a hotel,’ they’re not saying that.

“What they really want is no enforcement, and this is the crux of it.”

Conservatives need to make it clear that we’re advocating for solutions on the border, solutions that the Democrats don’t even want to talk about. Their solution is no solution at all: Complaining about the mess suits them better than cleaning it up. And if they can make a bit of political hay by saying wild things about the mess, so much the better.

Ocasio-Cortez’s toilets claim has gotten roughly zero corroboration, but that hasn’t stopped media outlets from reporting on one of the most wild claims made during the entire border crisis. If we’re going to have an actual debate, we need to start by asking the tough questions. The first needs to be whether the other side wants to solve the problem in the first place.
