On Monday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler floated the idea of “child abuse” charges against high-ranking officials at U.S. border and immigration agencies.

“This is inhuman. Frankly, I think it’s criminal,” Nadler told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in an interview about the humanitarian crisis along the southern border.

“There ought to be criminal prosecutions of some of the agency heads and some of the people for child abuse. This is clearly child abuse. It violates probably a half a dozen laws,” he said. The comments from Nadler came after 14 congressional Democrats, who recently visited the border, said that migrants were living in squalid conditions with limited water, according to the Daily Caller.

In addition, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had a dramatic outburstwhile at a border facility in Texas, claiming without evidence that Customs and Border Protection agents told a female detainee to drink from a toilet.

She also reportedly screamed “in a threatening manner” at U.S. Border Patrol agents and refused to tour the facility.

However, most of AOC’s harrowing account of the facility’s conditions were refuted by Hispanic pastors who toured the border in the days following her visit — ultimately making the case for “child abuse” charges more difficult to sell to the public.

“I read the reports, saw the news clips. I just wanted to see what was actually happening in order to better enable our efforts to find a fair and a just solution to our broken immigration system,” the Rev. Samuel Rodriguez said about touring the border in the wake of AOC’s dramatic visit, according to Fox News.

“To my surprise, I saw something drastically different from the stories I’ve been hearing in our national discourse. Even as a veteran of immigration advocacy in the U.S., I was shocked at the misinformation of the crisis at the border,” he said.

The reverend noted that there were no “soiled diapers,” “deplorable conditions” or “lack of basic necessities” like what Ocasio-Cortez and fellow Democrats claimed to have witnessed.

Rodriguez even asked Border Patrol agents about the less-than-favorable news coverage and said, “They unequivocally denied it — we were witnessing the identical conditions the attorneys saw when they toured the facility days earlier.”

It’s wholly ironic that earlier this year House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused President Donald Trump of manufacturing a crisis at the border, as the Washington Examiner reported.

Yet, here we are — Ocasio-Cortez and her radical friends are doing their best to turn a visit to the border into a broadside attack against Trump and his administration’s immigration policy.

Even if what they said was proven to be true through video evidence and objective witnesses, it all would have existed before Trump entered office. After all, the infamous chain-link cages that house detained migrants were deployed under former President Barack Obama, according to the Washington Examiner.

Last week, Thomas Homan — who was executive associate director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for nearly four years under Obama — said he has been to the facility that has cages.

“That facility was built under President Obama under Secretary Jeh Johnson. I was there because I was there when it was built,” Homan said.

For Nadler to play the “child abuse” card is nothing less than disingenuous and false. It’s just another political trick to keep the blown-out-of-proportion issue in the mainstream media’s headlines.

It’s obvious that the left will try anything to demonize Trump and his administration.

The Democratic Party can continue to push their anti-ICE, open-borders narratives on the American public, but the truth is out there. Trump, Republicans and America’s Border Patrol agents will be vindicated.
