MARTIN SHERMAN: PREDICTING GAZA…RABIN, SHARON…AND MARTIN SHERMAN….SEE NOTE PLEASE

http://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Columnists/Article.aspx?id=263064

WILL ALL DUE RESPECT, AND WE DO RESPECT DR. MARTIN SHERMAN VERY MUCH….AMERICANS FOR A SAFE ISRAEL IS ON THE RECORD AS THE FIRST AMERICAN ISRAEL SUPPORT GROUP TO DENOUNCE THE WITHDRAWAL FROM GAZA AND THE “ROAD MAP” LAID OUT BY PRESIDENT BUSH IN 2002 WHICH WAS A DIRECT PRECURSOR TO THE GAZA SURRENDER….RSK

The nation’s leaders have proved bereft of foresight – or hindsight for that matter. Can a dangerous ‘trust deficit’ be avoided?

The nightmare stories of the Likud are well known. After all, they promised Katyusha rockets from Gaza as well. For a year, Gaza has been largely under the rule of the Palestinian Authority. There has not been a single Katyusha rocket. Nor will there be any Katyushas. – Yitzhak Rabin, radio interview, July 24, 1995

I am firmly convinced and truly believe that this disengagement… will be appreciated by those near and far, reduce animosity, break through boycotts and sieges and advance us along the path of peace with the Palestinians and our other neighbors. – Ariel Sharon, Knesset address, October 25, 2004

Let me be quite clear as to what this article is and is not about. It is not about whether the unilateral evacuation of Gaza was a success or failure or whether it was a good or bad for Israel. Only the moronic, the myopic or the mendacious could claim it was any but a disastrously debacle. It is not about whether, despite everything, Israel is better off after disengagement. Only the fanatical, the foolish or the fraudulent would suggest it is. Nor is about the precision of my own predictive powers (Well, perhaps just a little. After all what’s the point of being right if you can’t rub it in?)

ROGER KIMBALL: HOW TO LOSE A WAR

http://pjmedia.com/rogerkimball/2012/03/23/how-to-lose-a-war-afghan-desk/

What do you think of this little tidbit from the Wall Street Journal [1]:

The Obama administration is offering to cede some control over nighttime missions into Afghan village homes, U.S. officials say, in a bid to ease tensions with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. . . .

The administration’s most significant proposed concession on night raids would subject the operations to advance review by Afghan judges, U.S. military officials said. One option under discussion in U.S.-Afghan talks would require warrants to be issued before operations get the green light.

Come again? Our soldiers will have to go to Afghan, i.e. Muslim, judges to get warrants to conduct nighttime raids against Taliban and al-Qaeda cells? How’s that going to work out? How, in other words, does this “concession” differ from a capitulation?

DIANA WEST:THE SILENCE OF THE LAPDOGS

http://www.dianawest.net/Home/tabid/36/EntryId/2073/Silence-of-the-Lapdogs.aspx This week’s syndicated column: Warning: This column contains news of evidence of possible forgery and fraud in the long-form birth certificate of the president of the United States and – bonus – his Selective Service registration card. I figure the warning is necessary to prevent Americans, particularly Americans who work in news media and […]

SALOMON BENZIMRA: DERSHOWITZ’S TWO STATE NON SOLUTION

Dershowitz’s Two State Solution is No Solution

Canadians for Israel’s Legal Rights – CILR
www.cilr.org

Professor Dershowitz assails the notion of a “one Jewish state solution” and characterizes it as “extreme right” as opposed to his preferred “two-state solution.” It is not a matter of “extreme right” vs. “extreme left” as he depicts it: it is a matter of right vs. wrong; a wrong that has proven to be totally divorced from reality, as the past two decades of the failed Oslo process can attest.
First, Prof. Dershowitz’s recipe crumbles on its own logic. If, as he says, “the Palestinians now seem unwilling to agree” to the cession by Israel of “all the territory captured in the defensive war of 1967”, what makes him believe that they will accept a far smaller territory consistent with Israel’s security requirements? According to a recent presentation by the JCPA, Israel’s security demands it retain the Jordan Rift Valley; control the Mountain Ridge; demilitarize the putative “Palestinian state”; and control its airspace and the main transportation networks. Does Prof. Dershowitz believe the “Palestinians” would now be more receptive to these drastic limitations on sovereignty?

RUTHIE BLUM: BEINART’S ZIONIST B.S.

http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_opinion.php?id=1599

Beinart’s Zionist B.S.

In a New York Times op-ed this week (“To Save Israel, Boycott the Settlements,” March 18), Peter Beinart says it makes him “cringe” to have to call for a boycott of Israeli goods. “I am a committed Jew,” he writes. “I belong to an Orthodox synagogue, send my children to Jewish school and yearn to instill in them the same devotion to the Jewish people that my parents instilled in me.”

Then he adds, “Boycotting other Jews is a painful, unnatural act. But the alternative is worse.”

Beinart, a professor at the City University of New York, is the author of “The Crisis of Zionism,” a book that has been causing the kind of buzz that publishers love. On the basis of its contents, he has also gotten a new gig with The Daily Beast, as the editor-in-chief of a blog called “Zion Square.”

To sweeten his already plentiful pot of acclaim – awarded him by virtue of his being an American Jew who thinks Israel is headed for an implosion of its own making – Beinart’s recent piece has gone viral. One can just see him counting his book sales instead of sheep, while he lies awake at night busily solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in his megalomaniacal head. There might be a Pulitzer Prize in it for him, after all, or maybe even a Nobel.

RUTHIE BLUM: PARK SLOPE’S SLIPPERY SLOPE

http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_opinion.php?id=1612

Park Slope’s slippery slope

This is a busy month for BDS-ers and the Palestinians on whose behalf they claim to be bashing the Jewish state.

On March 24, J Street is having a three-day conference in Washington to compete with, and counteract, the massively attended AIPAC gathering there three weeks earlier.

On March 30, the Iranian-backed “Global March to Jerusalem” is taking place, with convoys from Jordan, Lebanon and the Palestinian Authority making their way to Israel’s borders, and protesters in other Arab and European countries gathering outside of Israeli embassies with fists and placards raised. It is a lovely way to memorialize the slaughtered Jews, among them three young children, gunned down by an Islamist terrorist this week in Toulouse.

Meanwhile, back in Brooklyn – the ultra-yuppie section of Park Slope, where the affluent young (mostly Jewish) stockbrokers, lawyers, doctors, and a smattering of “artists” whose parents pay their rent – there is about to be a big meeting (this coming Tuesday night, March 27) to decide whether to hold a referendum. The referendum is on whether to boycott Israeli products at the neighborhood’s food co-op.

SRDJA TRIFKOVIC: MERAH…JUST ANOTHER REGULAR FRENCH YOUTH

http://www.chroniclesmagazine.org/2012/03/23/just-a-regular-french-youth
As soon as I heard the news I suspected the score. “Far-Right extremists!” screamed the media pack, but my hunch was right: the murderer of a rabbi and three children at a Jewish school near Toulouse, and of three French soldiers only days earlier, was not French. He was a French citizen of Algerian descent, as we now know, but his allegiance and his identity had nothing to do with passports and ID cards.

RUTHIE BLUM: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ****

http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_opinion.php?id=1564 Mission impossible Every time a war is waged against Israel by Iranian proxies along its borders, the response on the part of the Israel Defense Forces becomes headline news across the world. The moment the story erupts, the following chain of events ensues: The Obama administration calls for “both sides to exercise restraint.” The […]

RAEL JEAN ISAAC: GLOBAL WARMING AND NATIONAL SUICIDE *****SEE NOTE PLEASE

Rael Jean Isaac, Editor of OUTPOST the publication of Americans for a Safe Israel has written extensively about social movements in the United States. Her latest book is Roosters of the Apocalypse, from which this article is excerpted. She is author of The Coercive Utopians: Social Deception by America’s Power Players in 1984, the first book to trace the radicals’ entry into mainstream America and the agenda to destroy industry and capitalism. “Beginning in 1856, the Xhosa tribe in today’s South Africa destroyed its own economy. They killed an estimated half-million of their own cattle (which they ordinarily treated with great care and respect), ceased planting crops, and destroyed their grain stores. By the end of 1857, between thirty and fifty thousand Xhosa had starved to death — a third to a half of the population. The British herded survivors of the once-powerful tribe into labor camps, and white settlers took much of their land, as reported by Richard Landes in Heaven on Earth: The Varieties of the Millennial Experience.

The Xhosa had acted on the prophecy of a fifteen-year-old girl who promised that if they destroyed all they had and purified themselves of “witchcraft” (including evil inclinations and selfishness), the world before the white invaders came would be restored. The British oppressors would flee, and the Xhosa ancestors would return, bringing with them an even greater abundance of cattle and grain.

Do you feel a mixture of pity and contempt for these strange people who ruined themselves on the basis of an outlandish vision? If so, the feeling is misplaced. Just as the basis for the Xhosa economy was cattle, the lifeblood of our economy is energy. And we are strangling our own energy supply on the basis of an apocalyptic prophecy that has no more validity than the one that sent the Xhosa into self-immolation.

The apocalyptic vision to which we subscribe has a superficial scientific gloss — “climate change” — but at bottom, both visions prescribe economic suicide, and both promise that self-sacrifice will bring about a golden age. In the case of the Xhosa, that golden age was the time before the British invaded. In our own, to quote famed environmentalist David Brower (director of the Sierra Club and then of Friends of the Earth), it’s “back there about a century when, at the start of the Industrial Revolution we began applying energy in vast amounts to tools with which we began tearing the environment apart.”
