No End to a Self-Inflicted Tragedy By Daniel Mandel

Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah/Palestinian Authority has just cemented a reconciliation agreement with Hamas, the terrorist movement that seized Gaza from Fatah in 2007 and whose charter calls for the murder of Jews. U.S.-brokered Israeli/Palestinian negotiations have foundered in a predictable round of recriminations. But events commemorated in recent weeks provide the clue to understanding why such talks invariably lead to an impasse. On May 15, Palestinians marked what they call the naqba (Arabic for “catastrophe”) – the day Israel came into existence upon the expiry of British rule under a League of Nations mandate.

That juxtaposition of Israeli independence and naqba is not accidental. We are meant to understand that Israel’s creation caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Arabs.

But the truth is different. A British document from early 1948, declassified last year, tells the story: “the Arabs have suffered … overwhelming defeats[.] … Jewish victories … have reduced Arab morale to zero and, following the cowardly example of their inept leaders, they are fleeing from the mixed areas in their thousands.”

In other words, Jew and Arabs, including irregular foreign militias from neighboring states, were already at war, and Arabs fleeing, even before Israel came into sovereign existence on 15 May 1948.

Thus, what is now called the naqba consisted not of Israeli forcible displacement of Arabs, but of neighboring Arab armies and internal Palestinian militias responding to Israel’s declaration of independence and Britain’s departure with full-scale hostilities. Tel Aviv was bombed from the air, and the head of Israel’s provisional government, David Ben Gurion, delivered his first radio address to the nation from an air-raid shelter.

Israel successfully resisted invasion and dismemberment – the universally affirmed objective of the Arab belligerents – and Palestinians came off worst of all from the whole venture. At war’s end, over 600,000 Palestinians were living as refugees under neighboring Arab regimes. As Abdulateef Al-Mulhim, writing in Arab News, put it the other week, “[i]t was a defeat but the Arabs chose to call it a catastrophe.”

Israel: Going Its Own Way by Jerrold L. Sobel

This past week with the swearing in of the so called unity government, two sides of the same coin were joined together in maniacal matrimony.  With an unrepentant charter sworn to annihilation of not only Israel but world Jewry, Hamas and the equally corrupt and hateful Fatah have ratified their reconciliation agreed to this past […]

Shadi Paveh: Iran: Imprisoned Christian Pastor Missing in Prison

One thing is certain: both Hamas and Fatah are hoping to use the unity government as a ploy to attract financial aid from the international community, particularly Western donors. The unity government, which is backed by Fatah and the U.S.-terrorist-designated organization Hamas, actually serves both parties as a front for receiving funds from the international community.

Less than a week after its inauguration, the Hamas-Fatah unity government is already facing its first crisis as it remains unclear which party will pay salaries to tens of thousands of Hamas employees in the Gaza Strip.

It turns out that Hamas was hoping that the reconciliation deal it signed with Fatah in April, which led to the formation of the unity government, would absolve the Islamist movement of its financial obligations toward its employees.

That plan was, in fact, the main reason Hamas agreed to the reconciliation accord with Fatah. Over the past few years, Hamas has been facing a severe financial crisis, particularly in the wake of Egypt’s decision to destroy smuggling tunnels along its border with the Gaza Strip.

Hamas says that the new unity government is responsible for paying the salaries of its employees, but Fatah and Palestinian Authority [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas insist that this is not their responsibility.

The dispute between the two parties erupted into violence last week when hundreds of angry Hamas employees attacked a number of banks in the Gaza Strip after discovering that the unity government had failed to pay their salaries.

The Obama Doctrine By Karin McQuillan

President Obama thought trading a deserter for five top terrorists would be a PR coup. What does this tell us about our president as a person? At the most basic level, it shows that Obama does not share Americans’ visceral reaction to Bergdahl’s betrayal of his fellow soldiers and country. Obama, and no doubt Kerry, thought a deserter could be palmed off as a perfectly fine hero.

Before rushing on to the usual chatter about Obama’s incompetence, his wanting to get attention off the VA, and his grandiose belief in his brilliance at negotiating with Islamist regimes, it is important to pause and consider why Obama’s gut reaction is so off.

Obama didn’t have a normal visceral reaction to the 9/11 attack in Benghazi, either. Any normal person would have rushed to his post in the Situation Room to oversee a rescue attempt. On that one, Obama skipped the Situation Room entirely, and the rescue attempt, and went to bed to get his beauty sleep for a Vegas fundraiser. Something is off.

Obama does not have a normal visceral reaction to Iran’s mullahs armed with nuclear weapons. Just as the economic sanctions on Iran were beginning to bite, Obama lifted them entirely, restored Iran’s frozen assets, left their nuclear weapons program intact, and told Israel there will be “negative consequences” if they take out Iran’s nuclear facilities. He is obviously comfortable with a nuclear Iran. That is strange.

Obama does not have normal visceral reactions to jihadi groups.

Our president worked to install terrorists in power in Egypt, where they had been successfully suppressed for sixty years. He helped depose our ally Mubarak and did his best to hand over Egypt to the Muslim Brothers, a Nazi-jihadi group dedicated to sharia law, the worldwide caliphate, and killing all the Jews on the planet. Obama is still punishing Egypt for rising up and getting rid of the Brothers, by withholding military aid. This is not appeasement; it is not even collaboration – it is working for your enemy’s cause.

MY SAY: THE SIX DAY WAR June 5, 1967

The Six-Day War broke out on June 5, 1967 and changed the map of the region and the pride of Jews throughout the world. The late Ida Nudel the famous and heroic “refusenik” who defied the KGB thugs once told me that Israel’s victory inspired her and others to accelerate their fight against Soviet oppression of its Jewish population. In America, it opened a floodgate of support and admiration as thousands of American Jews entered academic and business institutions formerly restricted to them.

After repeated provocations and terrorism from all the surrounding Arab nations, with blood curdling Jihadist threats from the entire Arab/Moslem world, Nasser announced “The hour has come in which we will destroy the Jewish State.”

Arab troops surrounded Israel, the straights of Tiran were closed to Israeli shipping crucial for commerce and movement of goods and oil. When Jordan allied itself with Egypt, Nasser announced: “The armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are poised on the borders of Israel…to face the challenge, while standing behind us are the armies of Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nation. This act will astound the world. Today they will know that the Arabs are arranged for battle, the critical hour has arrived. ” To match arms to their threats the Arabs amassed 465,000 troops, more than 2,800 tanks, and 800 aircraft ringed Israel.

The rest is history:In a surprise move, Israeli Air Force destroyed 400 Egyptian planes, drove Syria from the Golan Heights and captured all of Jerusalem, Gaza, the Sinai Peninsula and Judea and Samaria.

Twenty three years and virtually to the day of the Normany Invasion of 1944 which was the beginning of the end of a war which killed one of every three Jews in world, the Jewish nation struck back against superior and well armed enemies and prevailed. Wow!

GEORGE PATTON’S SPEECH ON JUNE 5,1944 (PROFANITY INCLUDED)

General Patton:

Men, this stuff that some sources sling around about America wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bullshit.

Americans love to fight, traditionally. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle.

You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes and your loved ones. Second, you are here for your own self respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else.

Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight.

When you, here, everyone of you, were kids, you all admired the champion marble player, the fastest runner, the toughest boxer, the big league ball players, and the All-American football players. Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards.

Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American.

You are not all going to die. Only two percent of you right here today would die in a major battle. Death must not be feared. Death, in time, comes to all men. Yes, every man is scared in his first battle. If he says he’s not, he’s a liar. Some men are cowards but they fight the same as the brave men or they get the hell slammed out of them watching men fight who are just as scared as they are.

The real hero is the man who fights even though he is scared.

MAGGIE KENNON’S INTERVIEW OF DEANIE PARRISH- WORLD WAR II VETERAN WASP ****

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/detail/wwii-female-pilot-tells-exhilarating-secret-stories-of-wartime-exploits?f=puball

On February 29th, I interviewed Deanie Parrish. I learned of Deanie and her WWII history by researching the women of WWII. I was amazed by what I learned and what she shared with me. Come listen to our conversation…

During World War II, women stepped up into the jobs once held by men. They became mechanics, steel workers, plumbers and, for Deanie Parrish and 1,101 other women, pilots for the U.S. military. The Women Airforce Service Pilots, known as the WASP, helped train male pilots for combat, ferried aircraft, military personnel and cargo around the country, and allowed more men to serve overseas.

But Deanie never talked much about her adventures in the air; it wasn’t until 1993 that she began to share the stories of her service. Now Deanie and her daughter are recording interviews with surviving WASP. Of the more than 1,102 women who volunteered and flew every type fighter, bomber, transport, cargo, and trainer aircraft in the Army Air Force inventory 68 years ago, only about 200 are still alive.

MAGGIE: Thank you for allowing me to speak with you. My mom and sister are also listening in on the speaker phone. We are honored that we can share in learning about your time as a WASP.

DEANIE: Thank you. I did get your questions ahead of time. We can go through them if you like. Why don’t you begin.

MAGGIE: Do you remember the moment that you realized you were going to enter the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP)

DEANIE: No, I don’t remember the exact moment that I realized I was going to enter the WASP. What I do remember is the letter that was sent to me from Jackie Cochran who was the second most famous woman pilot. (After Amelia Earhart) Jackie sent me a letter stating I was accepted if I could pass the tests.

DR. YALE KRAMER: THE NAVY’S HEROIC ROLE IN NORMANDY

It is not widely recognized that the U.S. Navy played a vital part in the struggle to avert catastrophe on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944.

Of course the Navy had been assigned many important missions besides the 47-minute pre-invasion bombardment that day: getting the tanks and artillery to the beach early to give the first assault waves plenty of cover; clearing paths through the minefields so the landing crafts could get through; getting the infantry to their assigned beaches at the right times; providing beach masters to control beach traffic;providing signalmen to direct fire from the battleships and cruisers a mile out in the anchorage; as well as countless other tasks only experienced seamen can do well.

Unfortunately, the navy had no better luck in accomplishing these goals on Omaha Beach than the Army Air Forces and the Army had in accomplishing their planned operations. But in the end the Navy came through just as the Army did that morning on Omaha. And they did so not by carrying out orders from the top, but by the initiative and courage of individual skippers and their men at the critical moment.

The situation was this. By mid-morning small groups of soldiers had begun making headway up the cliffs and had succeeded in taking out some strategic gun-emplacements. Slowly, at various points along the beach, the movement forward had begun. But there were still many places where the men were hopelessly pinned down and demoralized by heavy machine-gun and mortar fire. No artillery had reached the beach, few tanks had arrived in working order and there were no working radios to help direct fire from the larger ships. It was at this time that the skippers of several destroyers-“tin cans”-seeing the catastrophic predicament of the men on the beach, decided to seize the moment.

The first to do this was Lt. Commander Ralph Ramey, the captain of the USS McCook. He sailed into the western sector-the section that had been assigned to the inexperienced 29th Division and that had been hit very hard in the first landings-to within several hundred yards of the beach and began firing with his five-inch guns at whatever he could see. His salvos were effective in destroying dug-in cliff positions, two artillery positions, and some pill-boxes. When other destroyer captains saw this they joined the McCook, guiding themselves by fathometer to within inches of becoming grounded-sitting ducks-and thus exposing their ships and men to heavy, directed artillery fire from behind the beach. Even from four or five hundred yards it was still difficult to spot well-camouflaged gun emplacements but determined gunners found ways to do so. Another destroyer that played an important role at this time was the USS Frankford. Its gunnery officer, Lt. Owen Keeler, writes: “A tank sitting at the water’s edge with a broken track fired at something on the hill. We immediately followed up with a five-inch salvo. The tank gunner flipped open his hatch, looked around at us, waved, dropped back in the tank, and fired at another target. For the next few minutes he was our fire-control party.”
