J. CHRISTIAN ADAMS: AL QAEDA BAR ADVANCING INSIDE THE DOJ

Al-Qaeda Bar Advancing Inside DOJ
http://pjmedia.com/jchristianadams/

President Obama has promoted Tony West to the number three job at the Department of Justice – associate attorney general. The former Civil Division head will oversee a wide array of issues, including enforcement of federal election laws in the 2012 presidential election, but also GITMO detainee policy. Before coming to the Justice Department, West and his San Francisco law firm represented some of the most radical Islamic terrorist causes, including the American Taliban John Walker Lindh.

West’s firm also was involved in the case of Mohamed vs. Jeppesen Dataplan, effectively attacking the CIA high value detainee rendition program. They also assisted the defense of Mohammed Al Qahtani, considered the 20th hijacker. But naturally, you won’t learn any of this in Sari Horwitz’s Washingon Post announcement of West’s promotion.

West is not alone among new Obama DOJ lawyers who represented radical causes. West brought more members of the al-Qaeda bar with him to the Civil Division at Justice to oversee GITMO policy. As Jennifer Rubin has reported at the Weekly Standard, West also failed to recuse himself, it seems, from terrorist cases his firm worked on even after West arrived at the Justice Department.

Most disturbing of all, Rubin reports that these members of the GITMO bar which West placed in charge of GITMO policy may have failed to recuse themselves sufficiently. Rubin:

Other attorneys in the civil division who came from firms that represented detainees—such as Brian Martinez (West’s chief of staff), Geoffrey Graber (counsel to the assistant attorney general), and Ian Gershengorn (West’s deputy in charge of the Federal Programs Branch, which handles habeas petitions)—recused themselves from individual cases where their former firms represented detainees. Gershengorn, however, continued to play a role in setting policy on issues relating to his prior cases. In an email dated July 14, 2009, he wrote, “I have realized that, while I can discuss policy issues arising from substantial support etc., I cannot work directly on the brief because it is one of the Boumediene cases, and Jenner had an amicus brief in that case.” (This begs the question of who, if anyone, was supervising the habeas petitions and the matters from which the political appointees were recused.)

West’s representation of Lindh, however, is particularly troubling. Even after Lindh was sentenced, and the case was concluded, West made outrageous statements to the Washington Post defending Lindh as a good person. “He’s so intellectually-driven, and he has a wide variety of interests — from English literature to World History to Islamic studies. I truly believe John will have a lot to offer after his incarceration.”

Left-wing defenders like to crow that everyone deserves a right to a lawyer. Fine, but that doesn’t mean you get to work at the Justice Department, and certainly doesn’t mean you should be setting GITMO policy.

Cully Stimson, former deputy assistant secretary for detainee affairs in the Bush administration, raised the question whether big law firms like Jenner and Block and Covington and Burling should devote so many millions of dollars to terrorist causes without raising legitimate questions for other paying clients who were effectively subsidizing the terrorist work. Stimson was right, even if those who should have defended him didn’t. But the question first raised by Stimson years ago has grown even more acute.

STEPEHN BROWN: AFGHAN POLICE FREE 41 INDENTURED CHILD SUICIDE BOMBERS…..SEE NOTE

DOES HILLARY, PURVEYOR OF “PUTTING CHILDREN FIRST” NOTICE OR CARE?OR IS BASHING ISRAEL HER PRIMARY OBSESSION?….RSK

More than 20 people died recently in “religious” riots in Afghanistan. The spark that set off the conflagration was the burning of several Korans by American soldiers after it was discovered extremist prisoners at an air force base near Kabul were using Islam’s holy book and other religious writings from the prison library to exchange messages with other prisoners they had no contact with.

The fact the Muslim inmates had already desecrated the Korans by defacing them with writing didn’t stop the usual “outraged,” rent-a-religious mob from furiously and hysterically shouting “Death To America.” It also didn’t prevent the subsequent murder of several US soldiers and President Obama from rushing to make an apology.

But that was not the least of the hypocrisy surrounding this staged, anti-American and anti-Western disturbance. Largely passed over by the mainstream media, about the same time the “religious” riots were happening Afghan police freed 41 Afghan children who were being taken to Pakistan to be indoctrinated for use as suicide bombers. The police also were able to arrest four handlers transporting this condemned cargo of innocents.

The ages of the children are shocking. The youngest child destined for a jihadist’s death was six-years-old while the oldest was eleven. They all came from poor Afghan families whose parents, in allowing them to leave, believed they were going to madrassas in Pakistan to receive a free education. Authorities returned the children to their families.

Earlier last month, Afghan police arrested a further two child suicide bombers, both aged 10, before they could attack NATO and Afghan military personnel and civilians. The children were reportedly released when the president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, pardoned them along with 18 other children. The problem of child suicide bombers is so severe in Afghanistan that one of Karzai’s ministers warned that people should watch out for their children aged seven to 13 years old.

RAYMOND IBRAHIM: WHITEWASHING MUSLIM IMPERIALISM….SEE NOTE

THE MIDNIGHT RIDE OF SHARIA…..ONE BY STEALTH AND TWO BY SCHOOL…..RSK

Because it is now almost axiomatic for American school textbooks to whitewash all things Islamic (see here for example), it may be instructive to examine one of those aspects that are regularly distorted: the Muslim conquests.

Few events of history are so well documented and attested to as are these conquests, which commenced soon after the death of the Muslim prophet Muhammad (632) and tapered off circa 750. Large swathes of the Old World—from the India in the east, to Spain in the west—were conquered and consolidated by the sword of Islam during this time, with more after (e.g., the Ottoman conquests).

By the standards of history, the reality of these conquests is unassailable, for history proper concerns itself with primary sources; and the Islamic conquests are thoroughly documented. More importantly, the overwhelming majority of primary source materials we rely on do not come from non-Muslims, who might be accused of bias. Rather, the foremost historians bequeathing to posterity thousands of pages of source materials documenting the Islamic conquests were not only Muslims themselves; they were—and still are—regarded by today’s Muslims as pious and trustworthy scholars (generically, the ulema).

DANIEL GREENFIELD: POKER WITH BIBI AND BARACK

As Netanyahu’s plane crossed the vast distance of the Atlantic Ocean, he must have thought that the oceanic gap was small compared to the diplomatic gap with the Obama administration. This time around there were no visible hostilities or outbursts. With an election coming up, Obama is less eager to humiliate Netanyahu, and Netanyahu does not seriously expect that a passionate appeal will get through to Obama.

Both men know the nature of the game they are playing, but neither of them expects much of the other.

Netanyahu does not believe that he can get Obama to set a firm “red line” that will trigger military action. For all the talk about “having Israel’s back”, the administration has not been willing to set such a “red line” in public or private, which makes all the assurances completely worthless. Without that “red line”, no actual commitments have been made, except a commitment to the Sisyphean diplomatic track.

And so Netanyahu has not bothered to seriously push for a “red line.” Any possibility of such a thing was off the table even before he arrived.

GADI ADELMAN: ACID ATTACKS….JUST A “CULTURE” THING OR JUST AN ISLAMIC THING?

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.11535/pub_detail.asp

“I treat my dogs better than women in Islam are treated.”

Those who have called in to my radio show to debate me on Islam or the dozens whom I’ve met at lectures and speeches who bother actually to confront me, always say the same thing; “Everything you talk about that is bad is not Islam, that’s not Islam, it’s a cultural thing, it goes on throughout the world in many cultures”.

Well, they are somewhat correct, the things I speak about, Sharia mostly, does go on throughout various parts of the world. The problem is regardless of where it occurs, the ‘culture’ is 99.9% of the time Islamic.

That last sentence will undoubtedly get a ton of hate mail (as usual), but to be more specific in this case let me concentrate on ‘Acid Attacks’.

SHARI GOODMAN: A NATION DIVIDED

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.11542/pub_detail.asp
As Islam and the Left continue to gain momentum in their march towards world totalitarianism, we in the West, the guardians of Western civilization, are in the midst of a deep political, economic, and social divide that has impacted our ability to wage a viable defense, let alone a strategic offense of the principles and values that our now under attack from within.

While the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organization bent on our destruction continues to make inroads into all of our institutions, one has to ask where are the voices within our halls of Congress, the press, or academia to sound the alarm? A Muslim Brotherhood document found during a raid by the FBI clearly states that ” “The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.” http://www.investigativeproject.org/documents/misc/91.pdf Their methodolgy practiced here at home is outreach and since 9/11 they have succeeded far and wide in penetrating all of our institutions.

Throughout the globe Christians, Jews, Buddhists, and Hindus are slaughtered for the sin of being non-believers (kafir); yet, not a word from Western clergy or Western leadership. Instead we have a President who apologizes to the Islamic world for the accidental burning of the Koran as if the worth of a Koran has more merit than a life. Have we in the West been so indoctrinated with pacifism that we cannot distinguish between good and evil or right from wrong? Has our sense of identity been so blurred that we cannot take pride in exerting our collective voice when confronted with evil?

EDWARD CLINE: OCCUPY THE MONEY ****

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.11545/pub_detail.asp
“I think we’ve been too slow to realize [why] people our own age, with histories just like ours, going through all that state stuff, to be [sic] dishonest, unprincipled, back-stabbing sleaze balls….Well, I was prejudiced in their favor. I thought that because they looked like us, and talked like us, they were going to think like us.” (The Big Chill, 1983)

So whined an ex-radical from the protest movements of the 1960’s and 1970’s, at a reunion of ex-radicals on the occasion of the funeral of a former comrade, “Alex,” who committed suicide and who was apparently the only one who “fought on.” Most of the characters in Lawrence Kasdan’s film of post-“revolutionary soul-searching” over how they were “co-opted” by the “establishment”, now all lead comfortable middle class lives. That is, they had to actually support themselves.

Well, sir, they haven’t stopped talking and thinking like “us.” Taking a leaf from Saul Alinsky, they fought on. “There was only the fight.” Now they’re in power. They’re the “establishment.” You spoke too soon. You were dropped from the club of sleaze balls who ascended to the top and left you and your angst-ridden house-mates behind.

When the pond scum and bilge surfaced in American politics, you were not to be found in it.

A TWOFER FROM DANIEL GREENFIELD: THE PRICE OF A KORAN AND A VIEW FROM THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/

Between the modern and the post-modern worlds, peace negotiations took on the fevered air of senseless enthusiasm that was once the sole preserve of wars. Once upon a time it was treasonous to oppose wars, now it is virtually mandatory to do so. Today it is treasonous to oppose peace processes, no matter how ill-founded, how senseless and how pointless they might be. The treason is no longer toward a country, but toward an ideal.

What ideal is it that the peace process represents? The ideal that we are all basically alike, that we might speak different languages, wave different flags and have differently shaped borders, but that we are all basically alike. We all want peace and wars only happen when our jingoistic leaders mislead us into a conflict. Peace happens when ordinary people of goodwill under the leadership of a few enlightened peacemongers get together and realize how much they have in common and that any disputes they have can be settled over some coffee or tea…….READ IT ALL

The Price of a Koran
What does a Koran cost? You can get a full color one for the Kindle for only 99 cents, just don’t expect it to feature any pictures of old Mo. If you want to go deluxe, you can get a hardcover edition that runs three different translations side by side for around 40 bucks. But if you want to be more practical about it, the price of a Koran is the lives of six American soldiers.
That butcher’s bill doesn’t count the soldiers who burned the Korans, who despite following procedure will be penalized on orders of the White House which thinks that punishing American soldiers will somehow satisfy the Koran fueled bloodlust of men who aren’t satisfied with their corpses. A WELCOME RESPONSE IN DARTMOUTH: ADAM SCHNEIDER

Schneider: Preserving the U.S.-Israeli Alliance http://thedartmouth.com/2012/02/09/opinion/schneider/print In his recent column (“The Case Against the Israel Lobby,” Feb. 7), Don Casler blindly leveled the highly controversial assertion that the so-called “Israel Lobby” manipulates American foreign policy against our national interest. In his piece, Casler fails to provide any legitimate evidence supporting his claims, but instead, he […]
