OBAMA THE TEFLON PURIM PRESIDENT: YEDIDYA ATLAS

http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/obama-the-teflon-purim-president/

Part of the “spirit of Purim” is the concept of “turnabout” – that everything bad planned by our enemies to do to the Jews was turned about and happened to them instead. A true comeuppance, if you will. Therefore, we celebrate the Jewish People’s pending tragedy turning into a great victory and salvation.

And so in that spirit, where one thing means another, I have to tell you how much I truly admire US President Barack “Barry” Hussein Obama AKA “Mr. Teflon.” I mean really, Obama is my true Purim President.

Let’s take old Barry’s AIPAC performances. Every time he spoke he said one thing, and a day or two later he “explained” what he “really” said and meant. For example, in 2008 he assured AIPAC’s gathered multitude that he would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear arms, and that Jerusalem would remain the undivided capital of Israel.

“Let me be clear, Israel’s security is sacrosanct,” Presidential candidate Obama declared. “It is non-negotiable…… any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel’s identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.”

Of course, a day later he told CNN: “Well, obviously it’s going to be up to the parties to negotiate a range of these issues,” he said. So much for “Jerusalem would remain undivided.” “My belief is that, as a practical matter,” the then Senator explained, “it would be very difficult to execute.” Meaning, Jerusalem must remain the undivided capital of the Jewish State, unless it isn’t, or shouldn’t, or something. Who cares? After that blatant flip-flop 78% of American Jews voted for him anyway.

In 2011 President Teflon decreed: “The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states.” So what if previous US presidents did not accept such a view including Democratic presidents from Lyndon Johnson through even Bill Clinton. So what if Obama is the first US president to, in essence, officially declare that the US position is the same as the Palestinian position?  It’s pure coincidence, right?

And then, of course, we can relax about a nuclear Iran threatening to wipe Israel off the map because after all, The Man said it plain as day to the AIPAC 2012 crowd: “We have Israel’s back!!!” OK! …… Or not, of course. We are talking about Barack Obama. I mean, he had our back when he spoke before AIPAC, but knifed our back, so to speak, the next day when questioned by Jake Tapper of ABC to explain what he meant.

“What it means is that historically we have always cooperated with Israel with respect to the defense of Israel, just like we do with a whole range of other allies, just like we do with Great Britain, just like we do with Japan…,” intoned the Great Obama. And lest anyone still believe he meant that the US really would have Israel’s back should military action become necessary against Iran, old Barry added, “It was not a military doctrine that we were laying out for any particular military action. It was a restatement of our consistent position that the security of Israel is something I deeply care about…” Or in simpler words, I already got my applause from the useful idiots at AIPAC so now I can explain to you that what I really meant was….uh, nothing.

Aside from President Obama’s penchant for flip flopping, which is nicer term than deliberately lying and claiming afterwards one meant something else, it is clear that he has never outgrown the community organizer stage and believes, as he stated regarding his 1967 lines faux pas that he merely said “publicly what has long been acknowledged privately.” While he loves diplomacy since he thinks the world is one big Chicago neighborhood, his ego-driven diplomatic incompetence always makes things worse.

Or as a May 23, 2011, editorial in The Washington Times succinctly put it:

“Diplomacy, as the name implies, requires tact; making matters explicit can sometimes retard the process. We saw this in 2009 when the Obama administration attempted to goad India and Pakistan to settle the status of the disputed region of Kashmir, which instantly killed White House hopes of brokering a “grand bargain” in South Asia. Perhaps Mr. Obama would like to try the same frank and open approach to the Taiwan question. If so, he would probably start a war.”

Nonetheless, Obama is still as slick as it comes. He’s running for a second term as president as if he’s not the incumbent and someone else has been living in The White House for the past three years implementing policies that don’t work. Whatever it is, it’s always someone else’s fault. But he can fix everything if only he’s elected…again.

Ya got to love a guy like that. Me, I’m planning on putting a toll booth on the bridge he just sold me.

Purim Same’ach!
