A ‘Revitalized’ Palestinian Authority? A new report shows PA police participating in terror against Israelis.

The Biden Administration is pitching its “two-state solution” to Israel with the lure of a “revitalized” Palestinian Authority, as if the doctor ordered a trip to a day spa for PA leaders. A new report by Regavim, an Israeli NGO, shows that real reform is going to take a lot more.

The report reveals a pattern of Palestinian police “turning their Western-supplied guns on the State of Israel” and then being glorified for their terrorism by the PA. It specifically identifies 76 officers of the Palestinian Authority Security Forces (PASF) who have been killed or arrested while carrying out terrorist attacks against Israelis in the past three years.

Take Capt. Ziad al-Zar’ini, who helped hide a Hamas terrorist wanted for murder, then opened fire in March 2023 at the Israeli forces in pursuit. “The PASF and Fatah,” the PA’s ruling party, “issued glowing tributes and eulogies,” says the Regavim report.

The latest example is Capt. Muhammad Manasrah. He had already served two sentences in Israeli prisons when, hired as a police officer, he shot up a gas station on Feb. 29, murdering two Israelis, ages 16 and 57.

The PASF was created to fight Hamas terrorism in collaboration with Israel, but for too long it has abetted, committed or celebrated terrorism. Why again does Secretary of State Antony Blinken think this PA gang will deradicalize Gaza?

Under pressure, PA President Mahmoud Abbas chose one longtime adviser to replace another as his Prime Minister on Thursday. A serious reform, however, would begin by axing the PA’s “pay-for-slay” program, which pays terrorists in prison as well as families of “martyrs,” such as the Oct. 7 killers.

A reformed PA would also cut the incitement to hatred against Jews from its media, sermons and schools. Refugee status for West Bank and Gaza Palestinians would also have to go. They’re in Palestine; it’s time to rebuild their lives instead of awaiting Israel’s destruction.

The two-state solution is one of those diplomatic constructs that sounds nice but crashes against reality. In this case it’s the reality that today’s Palestinian leaders don’t want Israel to exist. Even in the West Bank, Mr. Abbas hasn’t held an election since 2006 because he fears he’d lose to Hamas.

What’s Mr. Blinken’s plan for reassuring Israelis that a two-state solution isn’t a guarantee of another final solution for thousands more Israelis as on Oct. 7?
