Thoughts on the Cultural Revolution in Our Midst. Part One Victor Davis Hanson

We are in the middle of a grand effort to create an equality-of-result, race-based, radical Jacobin society. It is by design entirely antithetical to the Founders’ constitutional republic. And the revolutionary agenda is overseen by an exempt bicoastal oligarchy.

The enforced equality of result will, of course, be mandated by elites not subject to their own demands upon the citizenry: no charter schools for hoi polloi, prep schools for the Guardians; Teslas for the anointed, buses for the masses; walls never work, except to protect Martha’s Vineyard, Napa, and Malibu; high rises are green for you, fourth homes are necessary for them; take light rail and save the planet, fly private to ensure that others do not.

We see these disconnects most shamefully with the outrage from the Left about the bussing of illegal aliens (in small numbers no less) into their elite enclaves.

The Obamas and their Martha Vineyard socialites did not care whether 10,000 swarmed onto the sidewalks of a border Hispanic town, destroying social services, overwhelming their schools, and spiking crime. And they care even less when the Biden administration flew thousands under cover of night into red-state communities. But they do not want anyone loitering on the streets in their own downtowns.

Yet for the Leftist pundit, sending a poor immigrant into Martha’s Vineyard becomes the work of the “Holocaust.” What a sick parallel to compare the systematic murder of six million Jews to an illegal entrant getting a free jet ride to one of the safest, richest, and most picturesque beach towns in the world.

Yet none in the Vineyard, not one, will offer his now empty vacation mansion and expansive grounds to the dispossessed. Instead, for a few hours the blessed virtue signaled their concern—and then bussed out the “welcome” in less than a day.

Will Harvard offer the “migrants” its summertime and mostly empty dorms? Will the grievance-mongering Obamas allow the immigrant to use one of their 10 bathrooms in their now empty summer mansion. Can they at least invite the less fortunate to camp out on the surrounding acres of green grass or use the beach below their cliffside abode?

Actual class status is less important than race to the Left. Victimization no longer hinges on unequal income or privilege, but simply a different appearance from the majority population. So, Michelle Obama lectured America on its racism for “white flight” from Chicago. But if true, why did the Obamas themselves flee Chicago (shots heard in their neighborhood were becoming common?)? And why did they migrate to a lily-white Martha’s Vineyard where “systemic racism” is evident in its “disparate impact” racial asymmetry?

How strange that wealthy minorities must continue to preen about their ongoing victimization even as they adjust to what they damn as white privilege, which in truth is their own class privilege. Ask Lebron, Oprah, Kayne, or Will Smith. It is a truism that the wealthier a Prof. Kendi and Ta-Nehisi Coates become, and the more privilege they accrue, so all the angrier they become at “systemic racism” and “white privilege”—largely because such obsessions have worked to fuel their careerist agendas and are deemed vital for maintaining them.

Note that Jesse Jackson’s “rainbow coalition” and Barack Obama’s slick efforts to resurrect it as “diversity,” defined as a common collective based on the idea of not being white, are now nearly in shambles.

Look at the YouTube big-city victims of inordinately black-male violence (six percent of the population responsible for 50 percent plus of all violent crime) and the attacked are increasingly Jews, Asians, and Latinos. And just as importantly, the percentage of blacks who have had it with their careerist leadership is creeping up from 8 to 10 to perhaps 15 percent of the black electorate.

At some point, all of America is going to ask of the systemic racist industry, what explains the neglect of thousands of black lives lost to mostly black murderers? Why will no one move to Chicago to stop the Saturday night slaughters? Does Michelle Obama really think that reeling off her psychodramatic victim stories from her new Hawaii mansion, or her DC mansion, or her Martha Vineyard mansion, cuts anything with the elderly black resident of Chicago, trapped in her apartment, terrified to visit the corner grocery after dark? She is, after all, not scared of Jussie Smollétt’s phantom MAGA-hatted Klansmen roaming the neighbors of Chicago.

Is it the problem that such lost lives cannot be weaponized into careerist trajectories, but might demand introspection, a change of heart, and non-racial solutions to what can only be called urban genocide?

Is all of America finally going to say to the racist mayor of Chicago, the racist mayor of New Orleans, the racist Senate candidate in South Carolina, or the racist Pentagon diversity, equity, and inclusion officer, that their pure hatred and racial venom filter down to the street and result in things like the Memphis murdering and kidnapping, or the daily New York violent assaults on Asians and Jews—and especially anyone deemed deserving of such mayhem by the color of their skin?

Scream white privilege and white rage and white racism ad nauseam. And many on the street will interpret those obsessions as a blank check to act out the elite furor and with imagined impunity.

It is past time to hold the peddlers of racial hatred in the same class as all racial haters and dispense with the myth that the CNN or MSNBC host, or the big-city mayor, or the billion-dollar NBA star, or the multibillion-dollar talk show host, or the ex-first lady cannot be racist because they are supposedly marginalized people incapable of racism and thus are exempted from criticism to spout so freely racial bias and stereotyping—and, yes, hatred.
