Will America’s Open Borders Disaster Doom Dems In 2022?

One of a president’s clear and stated duties under the Constitution is to protect America’s states from “invasion.” In short, to protect the borders. President Joe Biden has utterly failed to do so. Now even his own political party is running scared from the policy it helped to put in place.

With illegal border crossings already at a 22-year high, the Biden administration is pondering letting the Title 42 restrictions that held back the flood of illegal immigrants during the pandemic end on May 23.

But doing so would produce a grim state of affairs, with hundreds of thousands of people illegally crossing the border in coming months and no one stopping them from doing so.

Not only would this be a nightmare for financially strapped border cities, which would be overwhelmed by the human tide, but it would pose a very clear national security risk as well.

The data are alarming. In March alone, the U.S. stopped 221,303 crossings along the Southwest border, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection released Monday. That’s a 33% jump from the month before (see chart, below).

But does Title 42 make a difference? During March, 109,549 illegals were expelled under Title 42 authority. So yes, it’s made a big difference.

Already, Biden has allowed 1.5 million illegals to stay in the U.S. By some estimates, once Title 42 is removed, as many as half a million more could cross the border in coming months.

Despite the leftist media’s talking points to the contrary, not all of those crossing are Emma Lazarus’ tired, poor, huddled masses “yearning to breathe free,” but something else entirely: Border officials have arrested 42 people on the U.S. terrorist watch list since Biden’s presidency began, nearly half of those (19) in just the past four months, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

How many got through? No one knows.

In border states, the anger over the federal government’s malignant negligence is palpable. On Monday, responding to the White House’s failure, 26 Republican governors signed an agreement to create a “Strike Force” to deal with the breakdown.

The goal, the governors said, is to “improve public safety, protect victims from horrific crimes, reduce the amount of drugs in our communities, and alleviate the humanitarian crisis at the Southern Border.” But they also plan to “disrupt and dismantle transnational criminal organizations,” including the cartels that now are the main human traffickers on the border.

In short, doing the job that Biden has refused to do.

Most Democrats cared little about the border chaos when they thought it would benefit them at the polls. Now, they’ve found out it won’t, and those who warmly embraced the idea of open borders or who said nothing are running scared.

They’ve discovered that virtually no one other than the wokest of the woke likes the idea of open borders, and that includes Hispanic voters. They will determine Democrats’ fate in the 2022 elections and are already abandoning Biden in droves.

A recent Quinnipiac Poll shows that just 26% of Hispanic voters approve of the job Biden is doing, while 54% disapprove. “Perhaps most striking,” noted Just The News, “the poll found a staggering 41% of Hispanic voters ‘strongly disapprove’ of Biden’s handling of the presidency, while just 12% ‘strongly approve.’ “

The No. 1 reason: Immigration. An overwhelming 69% of Hispanics expressed disapproval with how the White House is handling border issues. That’s an epic fail if ever there was one, given that Hispanics are the second-largest ethnic group within the voting population.

That may be why nine Senate Democrats have now come out in opposition to Biden letting Trump’s Title 42 expire next month. They fear for their jobs.

What Democrats fail to see is that, while their woke colleagues and supporters were applauding open borders and goading a clueless Biden to do even more damage, those who suffer the consequences of the border crisis were getting angrier and angrier.

Now, this may well be the issue that decides the 2022 elections. An unguarded, unprotected border endangers lives and economic well-being. The entire Southwest of the U.S. has experienced surges in violent crime and human trafficking, now both at or near historic levels.

Our federal government has actively abetted this crime wave and the responsible officials, from the president down, deserve to be removed from office.

Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution clearly states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.”

When it comes to protecting the border, Biden has clearly failed his constitutional duty. So has the Democratic Congress. We make no prognostications, but only say Democrats will find out in November how Americans really feel about their immigration policies.
