Hillary’s Reckoning Isn’t Over
The increasingly desperate Democratic Party and its allies in the media weep tears of joy at the thought of Hillary Clinton riding in to save the party, perhaps after a deadlocked Democratic National Convention. No such luck. After a judge’s decision Monday, Clinton would be wise to lay presidential dreams aside and lawyer up.
It’s been a long time since Clinton’s unquestionably illegal private email and homebrew server have even been mentioned in the media. But legal activist group Judicial Watch didn’t forget.
It was Judicial Watch’s request five years ago about the Sept. 11, 2012, Benghazi terrorist attack that led to the uncovering of Clinton’s private email network.
On Monday, acting on a request from Judicial Watch, U.S. District Court Judge Royce C. Lamberth said he would allow Judicial Watch to depose the one-time secretary of state, her former Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills, and two other State Department officials.
Not only will this bring back questions about Hillary’s actions before and after the Benghazi terrorist attack, in which four Americans were murdered, but it will at minimum serve as a reminder of the failure of her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat.
In making his judgment, Lamberth made clear he doesn’t believe the government has been forthcoming in its responses thus far.
“Discovery up until this point has brought to light a noteworthy amount of relevant information, but Judicial Watch requests an additional round of discovery, and understandably so,” wrote Lamberth. “With each passing round of discovery, the court is left with more questions than answers.”
Why “more questions than answers”?
It’s clear that as secretary of state Clinton used her private email system to avoid legal scrutiny of her actions, either by the government agencies or by outside groups such as Judicial Watch.
As the Justice Department’s inspector general’s report found in 2018, both now-disgraced former FBI Director James Comey and his deputy Andrew McCabe squelched the investigation into Clinton’s illicit email system.
In doing so, they violated their own department’s guidelines and, apparently willingly, mishandled the 2016 Clinton email investigation. Key questions have never been answered by Hillary & Co., despite the obvious violations of the law.
The question is why? There is a clear pattern by Clinton of ethically questionable, if not outright illegal, behavior while in office — ranging from the Russian-linked Uranium One deal that handed control of a major part of the U.S. uranium supply to a Russian-controlled company, to the financial double-dealings of the Clinton Family Foundation, which collected millions of dollars from foreign sources while Hillary sat as the nation’s top diplomat.
Hopefully, the unraveling of this long, sordid tale will begin anew with Lamberth’s decision to depose Clinton and her aides.
It’s important to remember that Clinton’s campaign paid for the bogus “dossier” used by the FBI and CIA to launch their spying on the Trump campaign’s supposed “Russian collusion.” The Mueller Report definitively rejected that charge.
The nation’s two most powerful intelligence agencies covertly investigated one candidate at the behest of another. Then, even after it was revealed, both the CIA and FBI dissembled about their roles in propagating the lie.
At the heart of it all stands the troubling former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the one many are now looking to lead the Democrats to the Promised Land of electoral victory in 2020.
Lamberth’s dead right. There are too many questions. For the sake of Americans of all political persuasions, left or right, we need to get to the bottom of this whole sleazy affair. Or risk losing our precious republic.
