DON SURBER: THE STATE OF THE DONALD

https://donsurber.blogspot.com/2020/01/the-state-of-donald.html
Last night, the Drudge Report was its melodramatic best with headlines declaring John Bolton Will Talk! Executive Privilege Fight! Cracks in Republican Unity! And — brace yourself — Ann Coulter has dumped President Trump again. This time for taking out General Salami.

None of this matters. This is Donald John Trump’s world now. We just live in it.

I reached that conclusion because to understand Donald Trump is to understand the world we are in, such is the power of the American presidency. Few have tapped as deeply into the potential power as he has. Certainly no one since Ronald Wilson Reagan.

The Bushes, Clintons, and Obama exploited the presidency for prestige (the Bushes) or money (the others).

Presidents Trump and Reagan entered the White House with fame and fortune in hand. They used the presidency for the greater good.

Reagan’s tale is over and has been told by better people in better ways. He brought back capitalism here and smote communism in Russia.

President Trump’s journey is ongoing. We know its destination, but the route reveals itself one click at a time. Conrad Black calls him a president like no other. The times demand it, and besides it is his nature, is it not?

So far, the president has shaken up NATO, rescinded multilateral agreements (TPP and the Paris climate thingy), cut taxes, struck down regulations, reached trade accords with a half-dozen nations, befriended Kim Jong Un, gotten Mexico to protect our border, and opened the door to the best economy in a half-century.

He did all this while under investigation, without the support of the media, and despite efforts by the deep state to sabotage his presidency.

Next month, President Trump will deliver his third State of the Union address to a Congress divided between Republicans and sore losers.

On Monday, he delivered his State of The Donald address in the form of a radio interview with Rush Limbaugh. The transcript is here.

Limbaugh began by asking about killing General Salmonella.

President Trump said, “Well, this should have been done for the last 15 to 20 years, him in particular. He was their real military leader. He’s a terrorist. He was designated a terrorist by President Obama, and then Obama did nothing about it except give them $150 billion and — even more incredibly — $1.8 billion in cash. You hear me talking about that all the time, and you talk about it all the time. He gave them all this money. He never wanted to do anything about it. President Bush should have taken him out. He’s responsible for the IEDs.”

That should have been Page One news. The president just called out his predecessor. The media is aware of what he said. They are vultures who pounce on every typo in a Tweet. The media for once is avoiding this trap because they realize they do not want to bring up Obama’s financing of terrorism.

Limbaugh later set him up perfectly, asking, “A lot of things had to surprise you when you assumed office and found out some things that had been done previously in policy. What was the purpose of American policy with Iran prior to your presidency?”

President Trump said, “I don’t think they had a purpose. I don’t think they knew what was happening. Why did he give them $150 billion, much of it going back into terror? If you look at what’s happening… When I first came into office, I went to the Pentagon, and they showed me 18 ‘sites of confliction,’ meaning conflict, over there. And every one of them was started by Iran, either their soldiers or they paid for soldiers, soldiers for hire. I have no idea what they tried to do with appeasement.”

Death to America is more than a just slogan. Iran has us tied up in 18 little wars.

President Trump said, “And I can tell you, the Logan Act. If there was ever an act that should have been used, they should look at the Obama administration and John Kerry, the Logan Act, because what he was doing with Iran and the relationship that they built up and the things that he said, I would certainly love to see that be looked at because I think John Kerry was. Personally, I think he was advising them. I think that the Obama administration was just letting them get away with murder — in the true sense murder.”

That’s another Front Page story under reported.

The Middle East situation changed.

On Sunday, Glenn Reynolds said, “In the old days of pre-fracking, the U.S. Navy had to hold the Straits of Hormuz open. Now it only has to be able to close them.”

In his interview with the president, Limbaugh said, “But the thing that really is true about this is the Middle East has changed in priority. Because of the massive improvements made in domestic energy in the United States, we’re no longer dependent on that region.”

President Trump said, “Right. Well, it’s right, and one of the things that changed… I know you talk about it. If you go back 10 years or eight years or maybe even five years, Israel was the king of the Congress, right? Our Congress protected Israel and fought for Israel. Now you look at the way the Democrats in Congress are treating them, where you have AOC and you have Tlaib and you have Omar, and they are actually, you know, anti-Semitic. They are totally against Israel. The things that they’ve said…

“You go back to the past and you look at the things that they’ve said about Israel and Jewish people, it’s incredible. Ten years ago, that would have been unacceptable. It would have been… It would have been… Nobody could have even believed it. I still can’t believe it! You know, I’m a little bit old-fashioned, right, in that sense, ’cause I’ve grown up and there was always great protection and reverence for Israel, and now it’s the opposite. In the Democrats, it’s almost… It’s almost a negative. They’re going out and what they do for Tlaib and what they do for Omar — Representative Omar, Minnesota — and AOC, I think it’s incredible the way they talk about Israel. It just was unthinkable to do that 10 years ago and sooner.”

It was.

Muslim money is a game changer. They mocked us when we called Obama a Muslim Marxist, and yet he advanced the cause of Muslim terrorists and communists.

Limbaugh asked him why wanting to Make America Great Again is controversial.

President Trump said, “Well, you know, politics has changed a lot over the last couple of years. For instance, I want low taxes. They want to raise your taxes. How do you think that works? I couldn’t win as a politician. I don’t think Abe Lincoln could win as a politician. Borders. They want open borders. When you see the people that we’re sending back and we’re capturing now at record levels, in many cases they’re murderers and they’re people, they’re drug dealers, and it’s incredible. They want open borders. That means all of these people are gonna be pouring in.”

And they did pour in, but that has ended, Mexico is closing our border and boarding those Fake Refugees who seek asylum here.

Limbaugh and the president talked about impeachment and Mueller and both topics bore the socks off me. Republicans are united behind President Trump and despite Matt Drudge’s best efforts, no one voted for impeachment in the house and I doubt any Republican in the Senate will vote to convict.

The State of The Donald is good. He not only survived an unprecedented attacks from within the government but he thrived. And so has America. His 2017 tax cuts rolled in a tide of money from overseas — more than $1 trillion ($1 million million) — which has helped fuel a surge in the stock market and a surge in wages. The people at the bottom are getting the biggest raises now.

The media glosses over the big picture while chasing inconsequential nonsense. They do so deliberately. They cannot admit the man made America great again for two reasons.

1. They hate the man.

2. They do not want America to be great again.

But the people love America, and while most may not love Donald Trump, most people want him to continue as president. He is getting the job done and having fun. That is the State of The Donald.
