Latest Antics from the Israel-Bashing Industry by Andrew Ash

Rashida Tlaib had asked to go to “Palestine,” which so far does not exist, on a trip arranged and co-sponsored by a Palestinian not-for-profit organization, Miftah, headed by longtime Israel-antagonist, Hanan Ashrawi. The group is described by Becket Adams in the Washington Examiner as “an exceptionally anti-Semitic group that praises Palestinian terrorists and claims Jews used the blood of Christians in the Jewish Passover. The organization also publishes Neo-Nazis and calls for the destruction of Israel.” Miftah has also called female suicide bombers heroes.

“I have never felt more Palestinian, than I have felt in Congress”, she defiantly declared to the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights in April 2019. That does seem a bit rich, coming from the same woman who has taken succour in tweeting that Senators who supported a pro-Israel bill “forget what country they represent.”

She simply seems uninterested in any type of protest that does not involve either noisy eviction or arrest, or in which she cannot get attention or be regarded as a victim. It is hard not to wonder what she is doing for her constituents. Is the wish to bash Israel actually what keeps the good voters of Michigan awake at night? And is anti-Semitism now the accepted new face of the Democrat party?

“I have to tell you, we have to understand first, what is the BDS [boycott, divestment and sanctions] movement? It’s an anti-Semitic, basically genocidal movement that wants to see the end of Israel. So make no mistake, these are not moderates coming to visit Israel. Israel per its 2017 law has a right to prohibit activists, especially those who want to see it wiped off the map, from coming in.” – M. Zuhdi Jasser, Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy.

US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D- Michigan) decided to pull the plug on the trip to Israel she was due to make, originally with her fellow “Squad” member, Ilhan Omar, after they both were invited on an official congressional trip but declined.

Although both Tlaib, and the equally outspoken Ms Omar, had initially been refused entry because of their radical views promoting the obliteration of Israel by boycotting it, being boycotted back was not part of the plan, it would appear. Tlaib was finally granted permission on “humanitarian grounds”, after an emotive plea to Israel’s Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, in which she set out her reasons for wanting to visit her Palestinian grandmother in the West Bank.

Gulf States Shrug as India Seizes Kashmir New Delhi is a major trading partner and powerful friend in a dangerous region. By Walter Russell Mead

The Muslim-majority state of Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed a unique status in predominantly Hindu India for more than 70 years. No more. Both houses of the Indian Parliament have approved legislation to divide Kashmir into two “union territories” and allow non-Kashmiri Indians to move freely into the region, open businesses and buy land. Many Kashmiris fear the result will be a wave of migration that ends any hope of Kashmiri independence or autonomy.

Pakistan, which has fought three wars with India over Kashmir, reacted with rage, but it isn’t getting much support from its purported Muslim allies in the Persian Gulf region. As hundreds of Kashmiri intellectuals, journalists and activists were arrested, and as telephone and internet service to much of the state was cut, Saudi Aramco announced a $15 billion investment in an Indian oil company. On Sunday evening, after stone-throwing crowds confronted security forces in Srinagar, Kashmir’s capital, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the United Arab Emirates next week to receive the country’s highest civilian honor. From the U.A.E., he will travel to Bahrain on the first-ever visit to that country by a sitting Indian prime minister.

Civil libertarians and human-rights activists in India and around the world have condemned the crackdown in Kashmir, but a recent opinion poll found 57% of Indians wanted Kashmir to lose its special status. Sixty-five percent said they thought Mr. Modi could solve the Kashmir problem in five years.

Britain Pays the Price for Corbyn The Labour Party has neutered itself in an era-defining debate.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/britain-pays-the-price-for-corbyn-11566248428

Blame for most political failures surrounding Brexit rests with Britain’s ruling Conservative Party, but the past week has cast a new light on the ways the Labour opposition also is guilty of dereliction of duty. With the country in the grip of a once-in-a-generation governance crisis, Labour has opted out of serious participation.

That’s the meaning of a remarkable series of events in recent days in which even the politicians most staunchly opposed to Brexit have concluded that Brexit would be better than letting Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn become Prime Minister. Mr. Corbyn last week urged pro-Remain members of other parties to oust Boris Johnson ’s Tory government, which has a single-seat majority. The parliamentary putsch would install Mr. Corbyn as caretaker Prime Minister for long enough to delay Brexit and organize a general election. Yet no one took Mr. Corbyn up on his offer.

It’s hard to blame them. Mr. Corbyn can’t lead a “national unity government” when his economic platform is the most radical Britons have seen in two generations and his tolerance for anti-Semitism within Labour continues to shock voters. His personal views on Brexit, and Labour’s Brexit platform under him, are so confused that Remainers distrust him to lead. It’s not even clear that Mr. Corbyn, steeped as he is in the tactics and ethos of the radical left, could be trusted to relinquish power quickly under an anti-Brexit parliamentary maneuver if he became Prime Minister.

Leading Left-Wing Economist Vilifies Trump and the United States Professor Jeffrey Sachs supports Iran’s Mullahs and China’s communist tyranny. Joseph Klein

https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/274681/leading-left-wing-economist-vilifies-trump-and-joseph-klein

Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs, an economist who is Director of Columbia’s Center for Sustainable Development and of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, hates President Trump. That’s no surprise, considering that he is part of left-wing academia and the United Nations wealth redistribution system.

“Trump is mentally disordered: megalomaniacal, paranoid, and psychopathic,” wrote Professor Sachs. “This is not name-calling. Trump’s mental condition leaves him unable to keep his word, control his animosities, and restrain his actions.”

Sachs is not only an economist, it seems. He is a self-appointed armchair “psychiatrist,” who has taken his own Trump derangement syndrome to the point of siding with Iran and China against the United States.

Sachs thinks that the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran was peachy keen. How dare President Trump withdraw from a deal that lifted sanctions against the Iranian regime and gave it gobs of cash upfront to finance its terrorist proxies around the world and fund its illicit ballistic missile development program?  How dare the president question the value of Iran’s loophole-ridden commitments that will sunset in the not-too-distant future and reimpose sanctions on the hegemony-seeking Islamist regime? According to Sachs, who is also pretending to be a lawyer in addition to a psychiatrist, the sanctions are “tantamount to war, in violation of the United Nations Charter.” Sachs goes on to say that the sanctions “constitute, or at least should constitute, a crime against humanity.” The only crime against humanity here is the Iranian regime’s state sponsorship of terrorists who kill innocent people, which the sanctions are designed to combat. As the Washington Post reported earlier this year, “since President Trump introduced sweeping new restrictions on trade with Iran last year…Iran’s ability to finance allies such as Hezbollah has been curtailed. Hezbollah, the best funded and most senior of Tehran’s proxies, has seen a sharp fall in its revenue and is being forced to make draconian cuts to its spending, according to Hezbollah officials, members and supporters.”

Rashida Tlaib – The Jew Hater Who Condemns “Injustice” A look at the long, ugly track record of an anti-Semitic congresswoman.

https://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/274657/rashida-tlaib-jew-hater-who-condemns-injustice-discover-networks

Rashida Tlaib made headlines recently when it was learned that she and fellow congresswoman Ilhan Omar shunned a bipartisan congressional delegation to Israel and announced that they would instead schedule an independent trip – sponsored by the notoriously anti-Israel nongovernmental organization Miftah – to the Jewish state. But Israel’s government – in accordance with an Israeli law barring the issuance of visas to any foreigners who, like Tlaib and Omar, advocate economic and cultural boycotts against Israel – stated that the two congresswomen would not be permitted to enter the country.

Shortly thereafter, the Israeli government softened its stance and agreed to allow Tlaib to enter the West Bank in order to visit her grandmother. But Tlaib, playing the role of martyr, turned down the offer, tweeting: “When I won [election to Congress], it gave the Palestinian people hope that someone will finally speak the truth about the inhumane conditions. I can’t allow the State of Israel to take away that light by humiliating me & use my love for my [grandmother] to bow down to their oppressive & racist policies. Silencing me & treating me like a criminal is not what she wants for me. It would kill a piece of me. I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in — fighting against racism, oppression & injustice.”

But if we look at the track record of this self-proclaimed champion of justice, we find a long history of Jew-hatred coupled with a pronounced affinity for radical Islamists.

Trump Slapped the Country Awake, But His Opponents Still Sleep William Harlanger

https://amgreatness.com/2019/08/19/trump-slapped-the-country-awake-but-his-opponents-still-sleep/

Our new political landscape is exposing the limitations and biases of those whose well-being is dependent upon our old political landscape.

Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George Will introduced me to conservatism. As an energetic journalism major in the post-Watergate ’70s intent on changing the world, I subscribed to Mother Jones, The Progressive, and Newsweek magazines for guidance and soaked up everything those proud left-leaning journals dispensed. And then, on the inside back page of Newsweek, I’d come across Will’s biweekly counter to virtually everything else I had read.

What a wordsmith! What a brilliant, encyclopedic mind. How could someone advocating for those awful non-progressive things he championed make so much sense? In the tug-o-war for hearts and minds, I was the tape on the rope. Mother Jones fought spiritedly. But Will, in time, pulled me across the line. Which makes it doubly hard to watch him repeat the errors so many others make when considering Donald Trump.

Those errors include—let’s use some worn but applicable clichés—emphasizing style over substance, missing the forest for the trees, getting caught up in the times (something you wouldn’t expect a history buff like Will to do) and indulging a detestable Beltway culture.

The errors were on display earlier this summer when Will appeared at the 2019 Aspen Ideas Festival to promote his new book, The Conservative Sensibility.

Will told his interviewer, PBS’s Judy Woodruff, that Trump’s name doesn’t appear anywhere in its pages “because it’s a book about ideas.” (Audience gets the joke and chuckles knowingly.) He said Trump isn’t a conservative, a charge he also levied against the Republican Party he quit four years ago. (Actually, Trump governs more conservatively than most Republicans in Congress.)

The New York Times Is the Trump-Hate Drug Kingpin Julie Kelly ****

https://amgreatness.com/2019/08/19/the-new-york-times-is-the-trump-hate-drug-kingpin/

If Russian collusion has been the opiate of the Trump-hating masses for more than two years, the New York Times was one of its biggest suppliers.

Since late 2016, desperate to drown their sorrows over Donald Trump’s shocking win, political junkies on the Left and NeverTrump Right eased their inner pain with a daily collusion fix injected courtesy of the Gray Lady. With one click on the front page or opinion section, Times’ readers could satisfy their anti-Trump addiction while making them feel, if only for a few fleeting moments, powerful and in control.

Pain would give way to rage, then a false sense of hope. Surely the man installed by Vladimir Putin would never serve out his term, they would say to themselves while feeding their insatiable craving. And just as the high wore off, the Times would offer another hit, provoking hallucinations about Trump and his corrupt family being hauled out of the White House in handcuffs by Robert Mueller.

So, in a way, you can’t blame the Times for obsessively covering the fabricated Trump-Russia collusion storyline. It’s what successful drug dealers do—keep their customers hooked on a steady drip of dope and desperate for more.

The paper’s executive editor admitted as much during a closed-door meeting with dozens of Times’ reporters on August 11, after a somewhat positive front-page headline about the president enraged Times staff and readers.

The daily supply of Russian collusion dope dried up, but Trump-hating addicts don’t need rehab just yet: The Times is stocking up another toxic potion—white supremacy—to poison the body politic and cure any collusion withdrawal symptoms.

Pivoting to the failed effort to prove that the Trump campaign conspired with the Russians to sway the 2016 election, Dean Baquet confessed his news organization trafficked the collusion drug until it lost its potency.

“The day Bob Mueller walked off that witness stand, two things happened. Our readers who want Donald Trump to go away suddenly thought, ‘Holy shit, Bob Mueller is not going to do it.’ And Donald Trump got a little emboldened politically, I think,” Baquet said during a “crisis town hall meeting” at the paper’s headquarters last week.

Tiananmen Then, Hong Kong Now By Matthew Continetti

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/tiananmen-then-hong-kong-now/

Orville Schell, who covered the Tiananmen Square protests for the New York Review of Books 30 years ago, has an essay in Foreign Affairs that is worth your time. Schell compares what happened in Beijing then with what is going on in Hong Kong now. The similarities are not reassuring.

“The Tiananmen Square demonstrations taught that powerful movements of dissent against the Chinese Communist Party are almost always destined to end in confrontation,” Schell writes. “Why? Because such challenges are intolerable to a Leninist one-party system that allows no notion of dissent and whose leaders are perennially worried about displaying weakness.”

A generation ago, Deng Xiaoping waited until the conclusion of a high-profile summit with Mikhail Gorbachev before acting against the democracy activists in Tiananmen. Gorbachev departed on May 18. Within a few weeks, the government massacred the protestors.

The demise of public education By David L. Rosenthal

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2019/08/the_demise_of_public_education.html

One may believe that those in charge of public education are qualified to administer the task of educating America’s youth.  One may believe they have the best interests of society at heart.  And one may believe they are doing the best they could do, given the conditions under which they have to work.  Abundant evidence, however, points to the conclusion that none of those beliefs is valid.

Public education has become an institutionalized form of child abuse.  Rather than being a tool used to prepare children to become productive adults, public education is being used to indoctrinate them to believe what powerful interest groups wish them to believe.  This process is designed to transform America into a place unfit for human habitation, in which rights are suppressed, powers of government are unlimited, and traditional faith-based values are rejected.

What children in public schools are being told to accept as facts and truth is often nothing more than opinions of those who reject reason and do what they might to prevent students from developing the intellectual skills required for critical thinking so they might embrace their own enslavement and the subversion and degradation of their society.
