Prevaricator, Part Deux Democrats take impeachment show to closed set. Lloyd Billingsley

On Thursday, prison-bound perjurer Michael Cohen testified before the House Intelligence Committee. Following the closed session, chairman Adam Schiff said lawmakers were able to “drill down in great detail” on issues they are investigating, but no great details emerged.

In open testimony before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday Cohen revealed nothing about Russian collusion or blackmail, and said he had never been to the Czech Republic or to Prague, a key charge in the Democrats’ campaign against Trump. On other issues, it seemed clear that Democrats had prepped their star witness well.

Cohen said Donald Trump was a racist, a con man and a cheat. While parroting Democrat demonology, the corrupt attorney in effect warbled the latest cover of Dee Dee Warwick’s “You’re No Good.” With nothing on Russian collusion, Democrats were eager to produce a trailer for their upcoming impeachment thriller.

The Democrats’ rising star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 29, said that bartending had prepped her to grill Cohen. The democratic socialist held back on apocalyptic prophecies and asked questions such as, “Did the president ever provide inflated assets to an insurance company?” To which Cohen answered “Yes.” The intrepid AOC was easily upstaged by Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib, 42, who was already on record that “we’re gonna impeach the motherfucker.”

Present at the hearing was Lynne Patton, an African American HUD official who supports Trump’s economic gains for black Americans. Tlaib accused North Carolina Republican Mark Meadows of using Patton “as a prop,” implying that no black American woman would choose to work for President Trump or render public support for the embattled president. That is hard to top, so the Oscar goes to Tlaib, who chose to be sworn in on a Quran, wearing a “traditional Palestinian gown,” and accompanied by the always understated Linda Sarsour, fellow supporter of the BDS movement.

The nation has never seen anything quite like the Democrats’ impeachment show. The Republicans might have come close in their quest to impeach Bill Clinton, if they had brought in chanteuse Gennifer Flowers and prepped her to testify that Bill “ate pussy like a champ” and told her that Hillary “got more pussy” than he did. On both counts, Flowers was already on the record.

Others might recall the Iranian crisis, under Democrat president Jimmy Carter, when the Ayatollah Khomeini invaded the US embassy in Tehran, took 52 Americans hostage and held them for 444 days, from November 4, 1979 to January 21, 1981. Republicans might have held hearings and brought in the president’s brother Billy Carter. He hung out with Libyan dictator Moamar Qaddafi at the nadir of his terror campaigns, maintained financial ties with the Libyan regime, and told an Atlanta news conference “there’s a hell of a lot more Arabians than Jews.”

The president’s brother Billy Carter was also caught urinating in public as he stepped out of a limousine. Representatives might have asked him about those women his brother Jimmy confessed to lusting after in his heart, and the gigantic rabbit and UFO he claimed to have seen. For more detail, see Steven Hayward’s The Real Jimmy Carter.

Republicans could also have brought in Democrat Lester Maddox, a big Carter supporter. The segregationist governor refused to serve blacks at a restaurant he owned, greeted civil rights activists with a gun, and gave white customers sticks to attack blacks. Representatives could have asked Maddox if Carter was also a racist.

With all that, such hearings might still fall short of the Democrats’ ongoing impeachment extravaganza, starring professional prevaricator Michael Cohen. For many Americans, this show will be totally understandable, entirely predictable, and completely without significance. On the other hand, it is not the only show in town.

In his public testimony, Cohen referred to proceedings against Trump in the Southern District of New York, where judge Kimba Wood is presiding over the case.  When the FBI seized 3.7 million documents from Cohen’s home and office, they fell into the care of Wood, who had been on Bill Clinton’s short list for attorney general.  In 2013, Kimba Wood presided over the marriage of George Soros to his third wife. The leftist billionaire gave $10 million to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, making him one of her top donors.

At the time of the raid, Cohen argued that his attorneys should get the first look at the seized materials for items potentially covered by attorney-client privilege. Judge Wood instead appointed former federal judge Barbara Jones to act as a “special master” to conduct the document review. Jones is a former federal judge nominated in 1995 by President Clinton, doubtless with the approval of First Lady Hillary Clinton. As with the Mueller probe, the cast of characters seems stacked with Clinton cronies.

Meanwhile, intelligence committee boss Adam Schiff told reporters Cohen would return March 6 for more closed-door testimony. On March 14, Schiff wants to bring in Russian-born former Trump associate Felix Sater and the committee will “try to do as much as we can in the open.”
