Donald Trump, Revealer-in-Chief . By Steve Cortes

First Lady Michelle Obama told the 2012 Democratic Party Convention that “being president does not change who you are, it reveals who you are.”  Ever since his entry into politics, Donald J. Trump certainly has revealed who he is, but even more importantly he simultaneously reveals the often-uncomfortable reality of who his opponents actually are.  In fact, the ruling classes of media and politics revile his unorthodox and pugnacious approach largely because of his uncanny ability to unmask their underlying motivations and philosophies.

Trump’s role as the Great Revealer began as he faced Republican primary rivals in 2015 and 2016.  He exposed elitist establishment figures like Jeb Bush for their stale policies and attitudes that alienated working-class voters.  Candidate Trump uncovered the harsh reality of frequent GOP complicity in crony political class maneuvers that served the interests of connected globalists — to the detriment of Middle America.  He skillfully skewered Washington as essentially a one-party town regarding issues such as unfair trade deals, punitive multilateral climate accords, and endless overseas military interventions.  His success in office pursuing economic nationalism and a restrained foreign policy proves the efficacy of a course that diverges from the strictures of the bipartisan Beltway Brahmins.

More recently, Trump unmasked his Democratic critics and revealed the radicals they truly are as leaders of a party increasingly slouching toward death and socialism.  Trump’s performance as the most pro-life president ever – especially concerning judicial appointments – compelled extremist Govs. Andrew Cuomo and Ralph Northam to fully embrace third-trimester abortion all the way up to the moment of birth (and perhaps even beyond, in Northam’s case).  In a ghastly spectacle, Cuomo illuminated the New York City skyline in pink to celebrate the legal termination of late-term unborn babies, a position supported by only 13 percent of Americans (and just 18 percent of Democrats), per a 2018 Gallup poll.

Trump’s pro-life advocacy aligns with his overall governance as the most conservative president since Ronald Reagan, and perhaps even since Calvin Coolidge.  In response, Democratic power brokers and presidential aspirants stake out ever more radical — even socialist — positions on the economy.  For example, Sen. Bernie Sanders calls for a top confiscatory tax rate of 77 percent.  Sen. Elizabeth Warren suggests we tax not just income but also assets of those she deems too wealthy – an unprecedented policy in American history. Sen. Kamala Harris told CNN she supports the elimination of all private health insurance, a policy that would move America to a nationalized single-payer model.

It might seem strange for anyone to advocate such radical policies as the Trump Boom finally lifts the prosperity of the economic underdogs.  For example, overall wage growth just registered the first 3 percent yearly income increase in a decade, with blue-collar wage growth actually exceeding white-collar gains.  Manufacturing drives much of this broader prosperity — in 2018 that sector saw the best year for job growth since the 1990s.  But despite these incredible advances, the Democrats insist on outdoing each other in the “resistance” Olympics of anti-Trumpism.  In contrast to their fanciful Green New Deal, which seeks, among myriad inane proposals, to not just eliminate greenhouse gas emissions but also to “ensure prosperity … for all people of the United States,” Trump instead produces a “New Green Deal” that puts new “green” money into the pockets of enterprising American workers.

On life issues and on the economy, Trump reveals who his opponents actually are.  In the case of 2019’s Democrats, he unveils a party fixated on cruelty and socialism.  While death and taxes may indeed be the only sureties in this life, they certainly do not comprise a winning ethos for a political party.  Just as he did in 2016, Trump rips the masks off of his opponents to reveal unsettling truths and, in doing so, protects the prosperity and security of our nation.
