WHO WARS AGAINST US? THE FIGHT AGAINST ISIS- JED BABBIN

The draft war resolution President Obama sent to congress last week begins with the statement describing our enemy as “…the terrorist organization that has referred to itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and various other names…”

That characterization implies that the Islamic State has somehow mislabeled itself. And we know which part the president questions: he doesn’t believe the Islamic State is Islamic at all.

If you read Obama’s “National Security Strategy,” released earlier this month, the only statement about Islam you will find is the denial that Islam has any relationship to what used to be called the “Global War on Terror.” The new “strategy” — to label it as such is to deny the meaning of the word – says only that “We reject the lie that America and its allies are at war with Islam.”

That’s true as far as it goes. But who is at war with us?

Obama is consistent. He has always maintained, as President Bush did before him, that Islamic terrorists aren’t really Islamic but are guilty of perverting an otherwise peaceful religion. Are they?

When thirteen people were murdered at Fort Hood in 2009 by a man whose business cards identified him as “Soldier of Allah,” and who shouted “Allah Akbar” as he killed in cold blood, Obama’s Army Chief of Staff, Gen. George Casey, labeled it “workplace violence.”

So it should come as no surprise that President Obama labeled that the murder of four Jews at a Paris kosher grocery “random violence.”
He told an interviewer that, “It is entirely legitimate for the American people to be deeply concerned when you’ve got a bunch of violent, vicious zealots who behead people or randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris.”

To say that the four murders in the Paris kosher grocery were “random” devalues those deaths. Obama chose his words carefully and by so doing, intentionally misled those who believed him about both the identity the Islamic terrorist and his statement to a Paris reporter in the midst of the standoff before police killed him.

Ahmed Coulibaly told the reporter that he was an al-Qaida terrorist and chose the kosher deli as his target because he wanted to kill Jews. His attack was about as random as Hitler’s brownshirts’ on Kristallnacht.

To say, as George Casey did, that the thirteen people killed and the dozens wounded in the Fort Hood shooting in 2009 were the victims of “workplace violence” devalued their deaths and wounding as well.

To deny the Fort Hood victims the Purple Heart – which Obama did for five years, an injustice only recently corrected – was to decide that they weren’t injured in combat with the enemy, though they clearly were.

With whom are we at war?

The attacks on the Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical magazine, are already consigned to distant history by the media. As are the Jewish grocery murders by Coulibaly, with which they were coordinated.

It’s also beyond memory that the leaders of many Western nations marched against terrorism in Paris after the Charlie Hebdo attack. That march for free speech was corrupted by the participation of Mahmoud Abbas, whose Palestinian “government” is in a loose partnership with the Hamas terrorist network. Conspicuously absent, of course, were President Obama and all other ranking American officials.

But that’s old hat. Just this weekend, the enemy (whomever it is) committed jihadist terror attacks in Copenhagen, Denmark. One was at an event to discuss free speech and blasphemy which Danish cartoonist Lars Vilks attended, and he may have been the target. Vilks had apparently committed blasphemy – at least as the Islamists viewed it – by drawing cartoons of Mohammed. One person was killed by a gunman shouting “Allahu Akbar” as he fired. Another attack (possibly by the same man) occurred at a synagogue where one person was killed. Danish police caught and killed one of the jihadist murderers whose name reportedly was Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein. Two others have been arrested.
This weekend also saw the Islamic State’s barbarians behead 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians. Obama probably considers this random violence just like the murders of Jews by Coulibaly.

Does anybody know who’s at war with us? There is an opportunity, but virtually no chance, that congress will amend Obama’s new war authorization resolution to define who we know is at war with us, and toward whom we should return the favor.
