IMMIGRATION     An important part of securing our nation is securing our borders.  Illegal immigration is just that – illegal and should be treated as such.  Federal law provides enforcement authority to address the illegal population within our borders, but these laws have not been enforced properly.  Better enforcement of our laws is the first step.   I oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants. Congress should continue to examine our immigration policy and determine what legislation is needed and in what areas, but for me – amnesty is off the table.  Amnesty rewards people for breaking the law.  It puts illegal immigrants at the head of the line in front of those who are following the rules in order to gain United States citizenship. Below are my principles on how the Senate can address immigration reform.  This six-step proposal reflects ideas and concepts from a host of proposals already discussed.  We could enact any one of these sensible proposals today and produce results tomorrow.  Amnesty for illegal immigrants is not a part of this proposal and I will not support amnesty.

HEALTHCARE – Fight to Dismantle Obamacare:

  • Mike has worked against Obamacare at every opportunity. Fox News called him the “Paul Revere” of the Anti-Obamacare movement. Before the law passed, Mike took to the Senate floor to denounce several possible bad effects which proved true.
  • Mike Enzi has been a steadfast opponent of Obamacare from the beginning. As early as 2010, he was proposing market-based healthcare solutions directly counter to monstrosity of the Obamacare legislation.
  • He voted against Obamacare in committee and on the floor of the Senate. He co-sponsored legislation to fully repeal Obamacare and another to fully defund it. Mike has supported 17 bills that would dismantle the worst parts of the law.
  • Mike also led an effort to overturn the HHS “grandfathering” regulations that has resulted in millions of Americans, including 2,600 Wyoming residents to date, being forced off their insurance coverage.

TAXES AND REGULATIONS

  • Wyoming citizens have to manage their family budgets and balance their checkbooks every day. Mike knows that Washington must do the same.
  • Among Mike’s signature proposals is the “Penny Plan” that would balance the national budget in two years, just by cutting spending 1% each year.
  • The National Taxpayers Union called it the #1 bill to save taxpayers money — close to $100 billion over the next two years.
  • The National Taxpayers Union calls Mike a “Hero of the Taxpayer,” and he holds 100% ratings from the National Small Business Association.

Lower Taxes and Regulations on Businesses and Families:

  • Mike knows full well how burdensome regulations and high taxes hamper businesses at every turn. As the owners of three NZ Shoes retail stores, he and Diana experienced that firsthand.
  • Mike is relentlessly focused on keeping taxes on small businesses and families low.

ENERGY   Ultimately, Congress sets our energy and environmental policies. The EPA should implement policies that reflect what Congress has passed and not to move forward with an agenda that favors one form of energy over another or would increase energy prices. Ensuring that the people of Wyoming and this country aren’t burdened by overly stringent radical rules and regulations that prevent business development and economic growth continues to be my focus as Congress considers policy regarding energy and the environment.

  • With the current administration, this is often an uphill battle. There is no question that the Obama Administration has launched a war on coal – a war that is unfolding in towns across Wyoming.
  • Coal is a critical part of our state and local economies creating jobs, generating tax revenues and bringing smart growth to many of our small communities. Coal is also essential to keeping electricity costs down across the country. Crippling the coal industry is both impractical and foolish.

EDUCATION   Keep the Federal Government Where it Belongs on Education – Out of Wyoming Classrooms:

  • A one-size-fits-all education policy simply doesn’t work, especially for communities across Wyoming.
  • Mike has built a record of protecting states’ rights and ensuring that local officials, teachers and parents determine what is best for our schools and students.
  • He opposes allowing the U.S. Department of Education to control our state’s education standards.

I believe we are a good people who care about our fellow citizens. We live in a great state where cooperation, compassion, and sharing are traditional values. As the Equality State and the Cowboy State, these values include hard work and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, gender, or religious faith. Tell me your dreams and hopes. Together we can take these Wyoming values to Washington.

  • Respect for One Another
  • Working Together
  • Strong Work Ethics
  • Equality for All
  • Compassion for Others
  • Helping People in Need
  • Bipartisan Cooperation

AGRICULTURE    The value of agriculture to Wyoming’s economy, culture and communities cannot be overstated. As Wyoming’s third largest industry, the output of our state’s agriculture sector has approached or exceeded one billion dollars annually.

GOVERNMENT SPENDING   When I am home in Wyoming, the top concern I hear about is the out-of-control federal spending in Washington. The idea that the federal government can continue to borrow and spend at a breathtaking pace when our national debt is approaching $17 trillion dollars is mind boggling to people, and they are right.

US CONSTITUTION AND GOVERNMENT SPENDING   Wyoming knows its people better than Washington ever will. Since I began my service to the people of Wyoming in the U.S. House, I am continually astounded by the ever-increasing reach of the government. As a co-founder and co-Chair of the House Tenth Amendment Task Force, I am fighting to return to the rightful owner – states and the individuals – the power that the federal government has grabbed.

ENERGY   Voted for the Keystone XL Pipeline without limiting amendments.    With the abundance of coal, oil and natural gas, wind, and nuclear energy resources within our borders, our nation needs Wyoming. The economic health of Wyoming is equally affected by federal energy policies enacted in Congress, as mineral income comprises nearly two-thirds of total revenue in our State.

IMMIGRATION   Immigrants built our great nation and its image around the world as a land of opportunity. Illegal immigration, however, undermines our immigration laws that have for too long gone unenforced. To help stop the bleeding, I support building a fence along portions of our southern border. I believe English should be the official language of the United States as a way to help strengthen the notion that language and citizenship are integral parts of our great country.  I also support the plight of states like Arizona who have taken it upon themselves to enforce federal immigration laws given the federal government’s failure to do so.   I do not support amnesty for illegal aliens. We do, however, need foreign workers in Wyoming, where our tourism and agricultural communities rely on seasonal guest workers when there are no Americans to take the job. But our H2A and H2B visa programs are broken and do not adequately respond to market conditions. The result is that foreigners have every incentive to migrate illegally while those trying to play by the rules flounder in a system that is lengthy, cumbersome and expensive. To effectively fight illegal immigration, we must both crack down on illegal aliens working in the United States through tools like E-Verify and simultaneously increase the number of legal workers in America.

CONSTITUTIONAL LAW   Our federal republican government, as it was conceived of and created by our Founding Fathers, is the greatest civic achievement in all political history. I believe that our Constitution was divinely inspired and was conceived by men raised up by God for that very purpose. I recognize no higher authority than the Constitution of the United States except for the Christian scriptures and revelations from God. I interpret the Constitution entirely as a document of individual liberty and never as a welfare state document, and I abhor and detest the present ongoing transformation of our prior constitutional republic into a fascist control freak police state and monocratic democracy by our present corrupt political system. I am absolutely committed to the restoration of our prior constitutional republic as it functioned in its earlier days, but without slavery.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY   Our present crushing national debt must be stopped cold where it is and must eventually be paid off (or repudiated by bankruptcy). I will never vote to increase the legal national debt limit under any circumstances whatsoever except perhaps during war declared by Congress (not by the president) to protect our freedoms, our national independence, and our national security. I favor a constitutional amendment to repeal the authority of Congress to borrow money on the credit of the United States and to compel the payment of the present national debt within 50 years.

NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY AND INDEPENDENCE   Our absolute national sovereignty and independence are essential for the restoration of our prior constitutional republic. I advocate the absolute sovereignty of the United States in all foreign and domestic affairs and favor our prompt withdrawal from the United Nations, all of its subsidiary organizations, and other entangling alliances, such as NATO, the North American Union, and the various “free trade” unions; I favor the immediate cessation of any contributions, including any form of dues payment, for such organizations. I oppose all aspects of unilateral disarmament, regardless of its jurisdictional origin, and favor the specific repudiation of State Department Publication 7277.

FIAT CURRENCY   The Federal Reserve System will celebrate its centennial next year. I favor a centennial birthday present for the Fed consisting of a thorough and complete audit of all its finances from its beginning to the present day to be chaired and directed by Congressman Ron Paul. I favor the restoration of gold and silver as federal legal tender except for payment of federal taxes and other federal obligations (the federal government should be obliged to continue functioning on its own quasi-counterfeit currency to incentivize it to maintain its value).

DEFUNDING FEDERAL BUREAUCRACIES   I favor the immediate defunding of the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Labor, Commerce, Agriculture, Housing And Urban Development, Transportation, Energy, and Homeland Security and their total liquidation as fast as possible. All related real estate of these departments and other government property should be liquidated as fast as the free market can absorb them, and the proceeds should be applied to the national debt, not to any ongoing operational expenses. Many of the sub agencies of the more legitimate federal departments should be likewise defunded immediately and liquidated as soon as possible.

ENGLISH AS THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE   I favor the institution of English as the sole national language by federal law and favor the prohibition of any federal function whatsoever in any other language, except that court proceedings performed in the English language that involve a noncitizen defendant may be translated into his or her native language for judicial fairness. Specifically, no election ballots in the United States or any of its states shall be printed in any language other than English, and no translation services shall be provided for any voter in the United States or any of its states. Among other requirements, United States citizenship should not be conferred on any person who is less than fully fluent in the English language.
