Gaza-Israel Dateline Paris: Dispatch No.4 by Nidra Poller

According to a report in le Figaro the UN is disturbed by a fatwa from the Caliphate ordering excision (genital mutilation) for all women. Don’t expect the world’s cameras to take positions inside the clinics—or above dirty blankets spread on the ground—to witness the mutilation of a potential 4 million victims. Unless and until Western media, civil rights organizations, thinkers and governments understand that this fatwa will spread like the jihad conquest of the Middle Ages and put the knife to the cherished sexual freedom of the free world, there will be no peace worthy of the name. Not in the Middle East, not in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo.
From the general to the particular: there was no cluster of journalists in front of the Pitzman restaurant Thursday morning. No visible police presence either. On the surface, everything was back to normal. I stopped by to verify the information heard that morning on Radio J, one of the best Jewish radio stations broadcasting from Paris. Yes, that’s how it happened. About 40 men apparently split off from the “good-natured” demonstration that dispersed at les Invalides on Wednesday and headed for the restaurant. Warned by someone who saw them running down the rue de Rivoli, the personnel lowered the metal shutter that protects the front door. The windows are bullet-proof. I asked how much time they had to batten the hatches. “Two minutes.”
The restaurant was filled. Diners could hear the raucous cries for Jewish blood as the assailants hammered the shutter with iron bars and baseball bats and tried to pry it open. One of the owners slipped out the back and came out through the synagogue where he was able to rescue two Jews trembling in fear.
Think of it: if or when these Jews make Aliyah and the young men don the uniform of the Israeli Defense Forces, they will become the heartless monsters portrayed in the soap opera that has been running successfully for 14 years. They will not cower, they will not wait for French riot police. They will defend themselves. And the media, and this and that human rights league, and the UN, and the pro-Hamas proto-caliphaters will deplore their use of “disproportionate force.” Supplications will mount to the high heavens. Ceasefire! Immediate ceasefire. Humanitarian ceasefire.
The crash of an Air Algérie plane on its way from Ouagadougou to Algiers and points north with 54 French citizens on board was a coincidence, unrelated to the FAA ban on flights to and from Israel. There is no reason to believe that the passengers tragically killed on that flight would have gone to Tel Aviv instead. That would be ridiculous. So there is no reason to believe that the city of Paris decided to repair the botched paving on the rue des Rosiers this very week, when the heart of the old Jewish quarter is the target of those “good-natured pro-Palestinian demonstrators.”
Half the length of the street is closed off from vehicle traffic by flimsy metal hoardings. Uprooted paving stones, wooden planks and metal grids are stacked up in easy reach. Pedestrians—and assailants—can make their way to shops and restaurants. But the circulation of police cars would be difficult. Thursday evening the police were stationed at the corner of rue des Ecouffes and rue des Rosiers, facing l’As du Falafel, the most fantastic falafel joint this side of rehov Ibn Givarol [falafel street in Tel Aviv]. Hefty police ready for almost anything, not the usual good-natured types in shirt sleeves that usually patrol the neighborhood. At 11 PM, business was not booming as usual but the eateries were far from empty.
What will happen tomorrow (Saturday 26 July)? If, as I suspect, Wednesday‘s relatively non-violent authorized demonstration was staged to make way for a full-fledge assault on Saturday, with its focal point at la République, a sort of launching pad for multidirectional attacks in the area known, before the mass deportations of WW2, as the Pletzel, that extended from la République to St. Paul, heavily populated with French Jews and Jewish refugees from other European countries.
Last week France discovered contemporary anti-Semitism. When I wrote about it in Commentary [“Betrayed by Europe,” March 2004] then French ambassador to the U.S. Jean-David Levitte wrote a letter to the editors denouncing my dishonest portrayal of his country that had rehabilitated Dreyfus, elected Leon Blum, and saved 75% of its Jews from extermination. Now that anti-Semitism has become a household word, I’ve moved on. I prefer to focus on lethal narrative as a strategy of 21st century jihad conquest.
If we were dealing with biased reporting we could counter it with the facts. They are abundantly available on the Net. Any journalist anywhere in the world can know as much as you or I about what is really happening in Gaza today. They even report some of it. And then proceed to launch another lethal narrative rocket. Rockets were discovered last week in two UNWRA schools. Yesterday, 15 people were killed and 200 wounded in an as yet unidentified hit on an UNWRA school where some 8,000 Palestinians had reportedly sought refuge. We were treated to an obscene display of gore and hysteria in the hospital while the notorious Chris Guinness unequivocally condemned Israel. “Massacres” deliberately provoked by launching rockets from UN compounds in Lebanon and Gaza have been effective in the past.
It isn’t working this time. One reason is the discovery of some 34 tunnels from Gaza into the backyards of kibbutzim and moshavim m on the other side of the frontier, along with an alleged plan for a Rosh Hashanah [Jewish New Year] massacre that is being compared to the surprise attack of the 1973 Yom Kippur war.
Disinformation can be countered by hard contradictory evidence …but the jihad strategy forges ahead. From the al Dura blood libel that set the scene for this drama, in which Israelis are cast as merciless child killers, to the cats-in-heat calls for a ceasefire, an invitation to mass suicide is broadcast as the highest aspiration of decent human beings everywhere. Hopes for a ceasefire, chances for a ceasefire, Kerry tirelessly seeking a ceasefire, anchormen and women looking into the entrails of Palestinian victims for signs of an impending ceasefire…
Hamas has been trying in vain to hit Ben Gurion airport. Finally the debris of a rocket pulverized by the iron dome lands on a house in nearby Yehud and the FAA shows us how the United States of Obama “has Israel’s back.” A ban on flights, a stab in the back, another ceasefire pressure point. And reasonable people all over the world are saying the solution [to the “Mideast conflict”] is not military. Israel must make a sincere effort to negotiate with the moderate Abbas [president of a Fatah-Hamas unity government] to conclude the everyone-knows agreement, end the colonization, offer the Palestinians a proper state [from which they can really truly bomb Ben Gurion airport to their heart’s content.]
The only ceasefire possible with jihad warriors is a hudna. Its purpose is to extricate the mujahidin from an inconclusive foray, cut the losses, buy time to regroup and reinforce their offensive capacity and strike again the next time the iron is hot.
The al Dura blood libel unleashed murderous rage against Jews in the Diaspora. Here in France synagogues were burned, people and property were brutally attacked, Israel was dragged through the mud, murders were committed, and anti-Semitism (call it Jew hatred, Judeophobia, Koranic genocidal hatred) was denied. The Muslim killer of Sébastien Selam was “mentally disturbed,” 26 of the 27 jailers who tortured Ilan Halimi were misguided underprivileged youths, Mohamed Merah killed Muslims too, did Mehdi Nemmouche really target the Jewish museum of Brussels because it was Jewish…etc. Shahid [martyrdom] operations murdered more than a thousand civilians without provoking calls for a humanitarian ceasefire. The al Dura effect is Pavlovian: if a Palestinian child is killed it is exclusively the fault of Israeli cruelty, a war crime.
Today we have irrefutable concrete proof that Hamas, following Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza, seized control of the Strip and constructed a border to border, above and underground, army base sheathed with a civilian protective shield. Gaza exists for the sole and unique purpose of exterminating the Jewish state of Israel.
Israel has the will and the means to defend itself. Consequently, after three days of defensive military action, the lethal narrative kicked in. Hamas disappeared. Nothing but Palestinians in Gaza. All civilians. Israeli combat victims were felled by three year-olds. No fighters in Gaza. And this “asymmetry” serves as an excuse for attacks against Jews throughout the Western world.
If North Korea attacked South Korea would Western journalists move into Pyongyang and deliver periodic news bulletins based on information supplied by North Korean sources? If South Korea had the will and the means to liberate the population of the open-air death camp to the north, would the UN demand an immediate ceasefire?
Breaking news: the prime minister announces that the government has decided to ban the “pro-Palestinian” demonstration scheduled for Saturday. The organizers, including the NPA [anti-capitalists], the PCF [Communists], les Indigènes de la République [virulent ethnic diversity party], are furious. They predict/promise violent incidents in reaction to this “unjustified” repression of their right to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinians.
A 19 year-old Jewish boy was attacked by a gang of 15 wannabe Jew-killers in Bobigny. They said “we’re going to give you what Ilan Halimi got.” There is reportedly a kill-the-Jews Facebook group that fishes for profiles of Jews and then stalks them.
When I hear the word “ceasefire” I draw my weapon—the written word. When I hear the hysterical demands for a ceasefire, I whisper am yisroel chai. The Jew-haters went too far. Jews are united, people who want to be free know where to place their bets.
The tide has turned.
