Talaat Mohamed Afifi Salem was the dean of the faculty of preaching at Al Azhar (that cheerful place that Obama claimed in his Cairo speech kept the light of civilization burning) and is the deputy head of the Islamic Legal Body for Rights and Reform, which comprises more than a hundred of Egypt’s leading Islamist scholars and activists.

Talaat Afifi is a Salafi (try saying that ten times fast) and an ally of the Muslim Brotherhood and has been accused of being part of the Muslim Brotherhood’s campaign to take over Egypt. The Simon Wiesenthal Center had questioned Afifi’s views on Jews and Afifi has now reassured them with a video expressing his interest in visiting Israel when all the Jews are being killed off by Muslims.

Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments Ali Afifi, which aired on Sada Al-Balad TV on March 14, 2013.

Interviewer: Will you visit Israel only with a Palestinian visa?

Ali Afifi: This is premature. Let’s wait until it happens. However, we hope that the words of the Prophet Muhammad will be fulfilled: “Judgment Day will not come before the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Jews will hide behind the rocks and the trees, but the rocks and the trees will say: Oh Muslim , oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him – except for the gharqad tree, which is one of the trees of the Jews.”

We fully believe that the future of this land lies with Islam and the Muslims.

The way the future of every land does once the non-Muslims have been murdered.
