Israel and National Security Policy

My support of Israel stems from my Christian beliefs that the early founders of America were irrevocably committed to a Zionist position as it relates to the Jewish homeland.

I believe that the State of Israel represents the best hope for peace and democracy in the Middle East. As a parliamentary democracy, it is an undaunted ally to America and American interests in the region. As such, America throughout its history, and most importantly today, must demonstrate its unwavering support for Israel’s right to occupy and build on its land that was legalized by every treaty and conflict since 1948.  Its boundaries were set by the exigencies of defending its right to exist against enemies who saw fit to conduct sneak attacks under Soviet sponsorship.  For the biblical precedents and historical evidence I refer you to a wonderful article in First Things by Joe Carter that shares much of my rational and historical basis for supporting of the people and state of Israel. http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/firstthoughts/2010/05/27/why-evangelicals-love-the-jews/

My position on Israel and its national defense does not stem from any facile party or partisan political position or geopolitical considerations but rather on a personal conviction supported in detail by the Bible. I believe that the majority of Americans, particularly the evangelical Christian community, stand in strong support of Israel’s right to occupy and defend its land. The two most recent propaganda-induced episodes (the boarding of the flotilla and Vice President Joe Biden’s visit) and the administration’s fuzzy response to them have triggered a new wave of polarized opposition to Israel under the guise of humanitarianism.  Given increased hostility in the Middle East, it is incumbent upon the both the American Jewish and the American Evangelical Christian communities to hold every elected official accountable in his/her position on Israel.
