Support for Israel and Middle East Peace

As one of America’s strongest and most steadfast allies, Israel is the only bulwark of democracy and freedom in a sea of repressive, autocratic regimes. Having visited Israel twice and having served two tours of duty in the War on Terror, I understand that Israel stands as our first line of defense against the threats from unstable despots and terror organizations in the volatile Mideast. Israel’s security is America’s security. The pre-eminent existential threats to Israel from Iran and its proxies today are America’s threats tomorrow. No nation has the right to deny Israel what is every nation’s entitlement — a country’s fundamental obligation to defend itself from annihilation.

Beyond a commitment to personal liberties and open, pluralistic society, the U.S. and Israel also share a long and proud history of strategic, military, economic and technologic cooperation and collaboration. It is therefore imperative that America ensures Israel maintains a qualitative advantage over its enemies. America must never waver from its bedrock support of Israel’s birthright as the Jewish homeland and her right to secure borders and to safeguard her citizenry.

Jerusalem must remain the eternal, undivided capital of Israel, and in respect and recognition of Israel’s sovereignty, the United States should relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In an effort to achieve a real and durable peace that has eluded Israel despite unprecedented sacrifice, the parties to the conflict themselves must negotiate, without the imposition of undue external pressures, artificial timelines or demands that compromise Israel’s security and national identity. The predicate to peace and a sustainable two-state solution must be Arab acceptance of Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish State. The Palestinian people, and for that matter, the entire citizenry of the Mideast, must support leaders who reject terror and dismantle its infrastructure, embrace the principles and institutions of democracy, and honor the rule of law.

The United States, Israel, and all free countries must stand united in refusing to capitulate to or negotiate with terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah, their sponsors and their networks, no matter how the rest of the international community may feel. Their goals and methods are anathema to humanity itself and we must never legitimize the groups or their goals and methods. I support legislation now wending its way through Congress that would demand greater accountability of U.S. funding to ensure that American dollars are not funneled to groups that intend us or Israel harm.

As a Representative, I will do more than just write a letter to the President, I WILL stand up to the current administration’s policies towards Israel and for her right to sovereign self defense. I will stand for justice and renounce one-sided international reports like the Goldstone Report. Here at home, I believe that we must remain vigilant against the ever-present dangers of anti-Semitism. Expressions of hatred, bigotry, and discrimination have no place in America.
