Racism

As reported by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has decided to reinforce the cynical innuendo, first made by NAACP, that the Tea Party movement is racist.

In its own right, the NAACP resolution on the Tea Party movement has also been a source of intense interest to some of our contributing editors. Gregory D. Lee and of course, Tea Party activist and Tea Party Express entertainer Lloyd Marcus, have both written commentaries in today’s edition of the site.

CAIR’s press release is headed: “CAIR Backs NAACP Resolution on Tea Party Racism.” This title alone implies that the Tea Party movement is racist.

The first point to make is that the Tea Party movement is a collection of diverse but mainly conservative people who have come together to protest the “big government” ideals of the current administration. The Tea Party movement has attracted many people at many venues. These are people opposed to an administration on account of its policies and apparent attempts to impose a form of European-style socialism onto the American people. There have been a very few instances of people with rather crude posters that do seem racist, but as a proportion of the whole, these people are a negligible minority.

At face value it is obvious that CAIR is hitching its horse to a particular bandwagon for its own ends. CAIR frequently invokes the specter of racism and then goes on to discuss not racism but “Islamophobia,” dishonestly maintaining that criticism of a religious ideology is one and the same as racism. This is fairly basic manipulation and, by now, most people with sense can see through it.

Rosa Parks, the heroine of the Civil Rights movement, died on October 24, 2005. She was aged 92. A mere two days after Rosa Parks’ death, CAIR announced that it was forming a “Rosa Parks Civil Liberties Scholarship” for “students studying in fields that promote civil rights, social justice and peaceful resolution of conflicts.”

The announcement was made by Nihad Awad in a speech during an Iftar dinner at the White House, to celebrate the end of Ramadan. This meal had also been attended by then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

On December 1, 1955, then a seamstress, Rosa Parks had been sitting on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, when she had been told to get up to allow a white man to sit in her place. She refused. She had been jailed and fined $14. That incident led to a year-long boycott of the Montgomery bus system, led by Martin Luther King, and effectively marked the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement.

Rosa Parks, during her life, had only one charity that she officially endorsed, the one that she had founded in 1987, around the time of her retirement. This is the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute. Rosa Parks had been a committed member of the NAACP, and she had supported the Democrat party, even though this same party had originally introduced most of the “Jim Crow” laws that had kept black people suppressed in the south.

I find no mention of the CAIR-sponsored “Rosa Parks Civil Liberties Scholarship” on the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute’s website, either in the biography, or in the news pages of the site. Maybe I missed it.

At the end of her life, Rosa Parks had been suffering from dementia, so would not personally have been able to grant permission for her name to be connected to a scholarship awarded by an Islamist organization.

As far as scholarships go, CAIR’s “Rosa Parks Civil Liberties Scholarship” is hardly inspiring. Applicants competing for this year’s scholarship must be submitted by September 17, 2010. The award will be $1,000 which, for an annual award from a “leading civil rights and advocacy” group, could be considered miserly. According to Fred Thompson, writing in Townhall in 2007, CAIR was spending $3 million a year on promoting itself.

The tethering of Rosa Parks’ name to a paltry award is not about fighting discrimination based upon race, as the recipient of the scholarship must be promoting or defending the religion of Islam. As stated on the America.gov website:

CAIR’s $1,000 Parks Civil Liberties Scholarship will be awarded to students with a demonstrated interest in civil liberties issues and an ability to show how the civil rights movement relates to the American Muslim experience.

On October 16, 1995, Rosa Parks had made a speech at the Million Man March, in which she affirmed that she supported civil rights for all people, but I can find no evidence of her actively supporting the racist creed of the Nation of Islam (which organized the march).

There is only one connection that I can see between the Christian Rosa Parks and the Islamist group that created the “Rosa Parks Civil Liberties Scholarship.” On account of her role in the bus boycott, Rosa Parks received threats and she moved to Detroit, Michigan. From 1965 until her retirement in 1988, Rosa Parks worked in the office of John Conyers.

John Conyers, chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, who now represents the 14th Congressional District of Michigan, has been forthright in his support of the Council on American Islamic Relations. In 2005 he supported a House Resolution (H.Res. 288) against religious intolerance that had a special bias towards favoring Islam, a bill that appeared to contradict the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. As Conyers wrote:

“The resolution was drafted to oppose all religious intolerance. To the extent it mentions the Quran and Islam specifically, that is obviously to respond to those who believe our nation would tolerate disrespect of that religion or its holy book. Clearly we should not, at least in my opinion.”

Conyers currently features in a CAIR Press Release which praises his introduction, with Congressman Nadler (D-NY), of a bill known as “The End Racial Profiling Act.” In support of this proposed Bill, CAIR had given written testimony (pdf) to the House Committee on the Judiciary. (Note how CAIR is again conflating religion with race.)

Conyers frequently attends CAIR events, such as the CAIR Michigan banquet, held this year on March 31. Conyers’ associations with CAIR are apparently longstanding.

Muslim: Here is a Jew Behind Me; Kill Him

In CAIR’s current press release, it is stated that CAIR “echoed concerns” of the NAACP “that the Tea Party has failed to repudiate elements within the movement who use racist or bigoted language.”

How far does CAIR want to take this “echoing” of NAACP attitudes? Benjamin Todd Jealous, the president of NAACP had written in a statement about the NAACP vote on its resolution: “”The time has come for them to accept the responsibility that comes with influence and make clear there is no place for racism and anti-Semitism, homophobia and other forms of bigotry in their movement.”

NAACP opposes anti-Semitism and homophobia, but is CAIR ready to echo such sentiments? Once you decide to become someone else’s echo, you start to lose your own voice, and I somehow cannot see CAIR unreservedly supporting these issues. After all, CAIR represents a religion whose founder condemned homosexuals to death.

Additionally, according to the Hadiths of Bukhari, the founder of Islam predicted that the Day of Judgment would not come until Muslims fought the Jews.

The University of Southern California Muslim Students Association used to have a complete online database of the Hadiths of Bukhari. The MSA renamed itself “The Center for Muslim Jewish Engagement” and decided to remove the blatantly anti-Semitic Hadiths from its online collection.

But with a little effort, and the help of the Wayback Machine, these original Hadith entries can be brought back to life, to be used as evidence. In Book 41 of the Hadiths of Bukhari (Kitab Al-Fitan wa Ashrat As-Sa’ah or The Book Pertaining to the Turmoil and Portents of the Last Hour) there are a few variations of the same text. They are here:

Book 041, Number 6981:
Ibn ‘Umar reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: You will fight against the Jews and you will kill them until even a stone would say: Come here, Muslim, there is a Jew (hiding himself behind me); kill him.

Book 041, Number 6982:
Ubaidullah has reported this hadith with this chain of transmitters (and the Words are):” There is a Jew behind me.”

Book 041, Number 6983:
Abdullah b. ‘Umar reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: You and the Jews would fight against one another until a stone would say: Muslim, here is a Jew behind me; come and kill him.

Book 041, Number 6984:
Abdullah b. ‘Umar reported that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: The Jews will fight against you and you will gain victory over them until the stone would say: Muslim, here is a Jew behind me; kill him.

Book 041, Number 6985:
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.

So why should I bring up this particular selection of Hadiths?

They come from a collection that earned the name “Sahih” (“authentic”) as Bukhari meticulously traced their chains of oral transmission, accepting only those that had a consistent link back to their source and rejecting all others. His collection was held in such respect that Moulay Ismail bin Sharif of Morocco (d. 1727) would force people to swear oaths on a book of Bukhari’s Hadiths. The monarch even had a retinue of trusted slave-guards who were called “Bukhari” after the Hadiths that he valued so much.

These particular Hadiths have a special relevance to modern conflict, as they are mentioned in Article Seven of Hamas’ charter:

“The Islamic Resistance Movement is one of the links in the chain of the struggle against the Zionist invaders. It goes back to 1939, to the emergence of the martyr Izz al-Din al Kissam and his brethren the fighters, members of Muslim Brotherhood. It goes on to reach out and become one with another chain that includes the struggle of the Palestinians and Muslim Brotherhood in the 1948 war and the Jihad operations of the Muslim Brotherhood in 1968 and after.

Moreover, if the links have been distant from each other and if obstacles, placed by those who are the lackeys of Zionism in the way of the fighters obstructed the continuation of the struggle, the Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realisation of Allah’s promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said:

‘The Day of Judgement will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.’ (related by al-Bukhari and Muslim).”

In January 2009, the Investigative report on Terrorism stated that the FBI had severed its connections with CAIR due to “mounting concern about the Muslim advocacy group’s roots in a Hamas-support network.”

CAIR was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial. The founder of the HLF was Ghassan Elashi, who was also on the founding board of directors of the Texas chapter of CAIR. Elashi was involved with illegal financial dealings with Musa abu Marzook, a senior figure within the terrorist group Hamas.

As related by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report:

Documents released in the Holy Land Trial have revealed that the founders and current leaders of CAIR were part of the Palestine Committee of the Muslim Brotherhood as well as identifying the organization itself as being part of the US. Brotherhood. A recent post discussed an interview with the Deputy leader of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood in which he confirms a relationship between his organization and CAIR. Investigative research posted on GMBDR had determined that CAIR had its origins in the U.S. Hamas infrastructure and CAIR and its leaders have a long history of defending almost all individuals accused of terrorism by the US. government, frequently calling such prosecutions a “war on Islam.”

There are other unsettling links: Randall Todd Royer (aka Ismail) was indicted (pdf) on charges of belonging to terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and as noted by Daniel Pipes, he

was working for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), militant Islam’s most aggressive political organization in North America, when he began training with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In January 2004, Royer pleaded guilty. Lashkar-e-Taiba has carried out numerous terrorist attacks and has murdered hundreds of innocent people.

Hamas, a group with which CAIR has been closely linked, has also murdered. Between 2000 and 2004, Hamas carried out 425 terrorist acts. Hamas killed a total of 377 Israelis and wounded 2,076 soldiers and civilians.

Now, while we are on this subject, how many people have been murdered by members, or friends, of the Tea Party Movement?

CAIR’s self-righteous hypocrisy

In its press release where CAIR attempts to downgrade the Tea Party Movement by employing innuendo to smear it as potentially racist, CAIR then goes on to mention Pamela Geller:

Extremist anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller was invited to speak about “The Threat of Islam” at a Tea Party convention last May in Tennessee. Along with her claim that “Hitler and the Nazis were inspired by Islam,” Geller has offered rhetorical support to accused Serbian war criminal Radovan Karadzic and slain Apartheid-era leader Eugene Terre’blanche. She has in the past posted images on her blog that include a fake photograph of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan in a Nazi uniform, another fake image of President Obama urinating on an American flag and drawings purporting to depict Islam’s Prophet Muhammad as a pig. In a June 25 blog entry, Geller posted a video claiming that Muslims engage in bestiality. Despite this history of bigotry and extremism, convention organizers refused to drop Geller as a speaker.

Pamela Geller is NOT a racist, despite the attempts by CAIR to present her as such.

The Muslim Brotherhood, with which CAIR is apparently intricately involved, chose to claim Haj Amin al-Husseini as a Muslim Brotherhood leader in Palestinian regions after the end of World War II. Husseini was a real, practicing Nazi – who met Hitler, Adolph Eichmann in 1941 and who helped found the 13th Handschar Division of the Waffen SS in Bosnia – a branch of the SS that was entirely comprised of Muslim members.

In further press releases, CAIR is asking Tea Party members to drop Brigitte Gabriel from attending rallies. Is it not up to the Tea Party movement itself to choose who attends and addresses its rallies, and not up to CAIR?

There is such a thing as freedom of speech, which – notwithstanding the efforts of CAIR and John Conyers – is still protected under the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights.

CAIR has shown its respect for America by demanding that part of the Supreme Court be destroyed to satisfy its prejudices. In 1935, when the current Supreme Court building was opened, it contained a frieze of historical law-givers, carved by architectural sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. This included an image of Mohammed. In 1997, CAIR petitioned Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, demanding that the statue be sandblasted or removed. CAIR, then only three years in existence, objected to the sword in Mohammed’s hand as it was viewed as “reinforcing long-held stereotypes of Muslims as intolerant conquerors.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on February 9 2006 that CAIR had noted that: “While appreciating the fact that Muhammad was included in the court’s pantheon of 18 prominent lawgivers of history, CAIR noted that Islam discouraged its followers from portraying any prophet in paintings, sculptures or other artistic representations.”

Renquist threw out CAIR’s request, stating: “was intended only to recognize him, among many other lawgivers, as an important figure in the history of law; it is not intended as a form of idol worship.”

CAIR shows how little respect it has for federal authorities by currently reproducing on its website part of an externally-linked article called “The FBI: Foiling its Own Plots Since 2001” in which the FBI are blamed for creating terror plots which are then successfully prosecuted. The implied message is that the FBI invents or instigates most cases of Muslim terrorism. Hmm……

CAIR decides to jump on bandwagons, claims to be opposed to racism but uses a spurious interpretation of race to promote its own particularly political form of Islam (Islamism), has had senior figures openly supporting terrorism, and then decides it is in a position to lecture others? Hmm…..

Of course, one could always mention the words of the CAIR founder Omar Ahmad, who in 1998 told Muslims that “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”CAIR has consistently denied this account, but it appeared in the July 4, 1998 edition of the San Roman Valley Herald, which can be seen here (pdf).

Ahmad had spoken outside the Flamingo Palace banquet hall on Peralta Boulevard.

“If you choose to live here [in America]… you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam. Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth. ”

CAIR can try to moralize, and it can attempt to smear and undermine those who criticize it. However, as a national organization, it has a tainted history. It had senior figures who were too closely connected to terrorist groups which deliberately killed innocent civilians to even begin to attempt “high-minded” moralizing at others.
