Lenin referred to them as “useful idiots” – the Western Europeans and Americans who supported Communism and the Soviets without fully understanding the consequences of their actions.
We are witnessing a similar phenomenon today in New York City. New Yorkers, including elected officials, Jews, members of the LGBTQ+ community, parents of school age children, crime victims, small business owners, and landlords who support Zohran Mamdani for Mayor, are all basking in the glow of their self-proclaimed enlightenment, self-importance, and virtue.
They should be dubbed Zohran’s Morons (ZMs).
Perhaps the most famous of ZMs is New York Governor Kathy Hochul. By issuing her recent full-throated endorsement of Mamdani, she has not only proven that she is intellectually limited, incompetent, and weak-willed, but she has also demonstrated that she is morally bankrupt.
She truly is America’s worst governor.
Her endorsement is vapid, incoherent, drivel. To explain why she is endorsing him she states:
“In the past few months, I’ve had frank conversations with him. We’ve had our disagreements. But in our conversations, I heard a leader who shares my commitment to a New York where children can grow up safe in their neighborhoods and where opportunity is within reach for every family. I heard a leader who is focused on making New York City affordable — a goal I enthusiastically support.”
Apparently, what they discussed remains a secret. We still do not know on what issues they disagree.
She mentions safe neighborhoods. Mamdani has made clear that he believes the NYPD is “wicked” and “evil” and that it must be defunded. Exactly how Mamdani will make New York’s neighborhoods safe remains a mystery. Of course, less affluent minority communities of color will be the most adversely impacted by the spike in crime that Mamdani’s war on cops will cause.
Hochul’s rejoinder to that is:
“I urged him to ensure that there is strong leadership at the helm of the N.Y.P.D. — and he agreed.”
I have no doubt he will appoint a strong police commissioner for the NYPD. But where will that strong commissioner lead New York’s Finest other than to early retirement? The commissioner will undoubtedly share Mamdani’s view that the NYPD is wicked and evil and needs to be restrained and defunded. Mamdani’s commissioner will undoubtedly share his pro-criminal agenda. With Mayor Mamdani, the best New York can hope for is weak incompetent leadership at the NYPD.
Any New Yorker who wants to feel safe in the streets of New York and votes for Mamdani, is a ZM.
Ensuring that “opportunity is within reach for every family” is a laudable goal.
However, without a strong education children have no chance of success. New York City schools are failing our children. They are not getting the education they need and deserve to prepare them for success. Mamdani’s answer is to double down on this failure by ending Mayoral control of our schools and turning them over to the teachers’ unions.
Putting Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, and Michael Mulgrew, the head of the United Federation of Teachers, in charge of New York’s schools is like putting Bernie Madoff in charge of your investment portfolio: the grifters will be enriched and the intended beneficiaries will be left with nothing.
Any parent who wants a good education for their child and votes for Mamdani, is a ZM.
Does Governor Hochul support this agenda? She should let the voters know one way or the other.
It is also good to know that the Governor enthusiastically shares Mamdani’s focus “on making New York City affordable.” Did she ask him how he would do that other than by making everything free?
Mamdani, like his fellow Democratic Socialists of America, is a Communist. He does not believe in private property and thinks government should own and control the means of production.
Perhaps Hochul missed that day in high school when her teachers taught that America won the Cold War and that Communism has failed everywhere and every time it was tried. The Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, Vietnam, and Mao’s China are but a few examples. She obviously also missed the day in class when the curriculum covered the fact that Mao and Stalin — the two most powerful Communists of the 20th century– were each responsible for murdering more people than Hitler. This was the evil that Communism wrought.
Any business owner, or resident who owns property in New York and votes for Mamdani, is a ZM.
Is this the platform the Governor will run on next year as she seeks reelection? Tell us now, Kathy.
Particularly troubling was her statement regarding Mamdani’s blatant and disgusting antisemitism:
“We discussed the need to combat the rise of antisemitism urgently and unequivocally. I’ve been glad to see him meet with Jewish leaders across the city, listening and addressing their concerns directly. I look forward to working together to make sure New Yorkers of all faiths feel safe and welcome in New York City.”
Mamdani’s antisemitic and anti-Israel worldview is well known. Who cares that he is “listening and addressing their concerns.” His views have not changed an iota and Jews do not feel safe.
· He has made clear that he does not believe Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish State.
· He supports Hamas, which seeks the extermination of the Jewish people wherever they live, and he refuses to renounce the use of the term “globalize the Intifada,” which means seek out and kill Jews everywhere.
· He has just reiterated his intent to arrest Prime Minister Netanyahu, the democratically elected leader of America’s strongest ally, when Bibi returns to New York. Of course, Mamdani has no legal authority to do so. It is just something to say to further demonstrate his Jew-hatred bona fides.
· He has made clear his intent to rescind Mayor Adams’s directive to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism in our schools — the same definition officially used by the State Department and by school systems around the country. For Mamdani, the definition of “antisemitism” is elastic. It is always defined in a way that excludes his conduct so he can claim he is not antisemitic.
Any Jew who actively supports Mamdani, like Jerry Nadler and Brad Ladner, or simply votes for Mamdani, is a ZR.
As an aside, because Mamdani supports Hamas, and Hamas believes that being a member of the LGBTQ+ community is a crime that is punishable by death, any member of that community who votes for Mamdani, is a ZR.
Hochul’s endorsement makes clear that confronting President Trump is an obvious top priority for her.
“Mr. Mamdani and I will both be fearless in confronting the president’s extreme agenda — with urgency, conviction and the defiance that defines New York. And we must never allow Mr. Trump to control our city like the king he wants to be. Anyone who accepts his tainted influence or benefits from it is compromised from the start.”
Perhaps the Governor is unaware that New York City’s operating budget for fiscal year 2025 includes $9.7B of federal funds; over 8% of the city’s total spending. Regardless of any Mayor’s view of the President, New York cannot survive without working with him and the Republican-controlled Congress. Fighting with Trump and Republicans, rather than working with them for the benefit of all New Yorkers, may make Hochul and Mamdani (and their progressive minions) feel good, but it is the least among us who will suffer most if those two cannot work with Washington.
Any New Yorker who understands that New York City cannot function without federal funding and votes for Mamdani is a ZM.
Hochul ends her endorsement with a caveat:
“Mr. Mamdani and I don’t see eye to eye on everything, and I don’t expect us to. I will always reserve the right to disagree honestly and to argue passionately…”
Unfortunately, she has it backwards. She is in no position to act independently from Mamdani. She has cornered herself into having to give in to Mamdani’s every whim. She is owned by him.
By making the endorsement, she has conceded that she desperately needs Mamdani’s help in her reelection bid next year.
She is likely to be challenged in the Democratic primary by Antonio Delgado, New York State’s Lieutenant Governor. Delgado is from Mamdani’s Socialist wing of the party. It will be difficult for her to defeat her challenger without Mamdani’s support. She certainly will not be able to win a general election against a formidable candidate like Elise Stefanik without Mamdani.
Therefore, when Mamdani demands that the NYPD be neutered, the Governor will help neuter the NYPD. When he demands that Hochul raise taxes, she will raise taxes. When he demands that the New York State pension funds divest from Israel, they will divest from Israel. When he demands further pro-criminal bail reform, she will pass more pro-criminal bail reform. When he demands that New York City schools be turned over to the teachers’ unions, she will sell out New York’s children.
Governor Hochul may not be the only ZM out there. But she has proven that she stands out among Zohran’s Morons as being the biggest moron of all.
