ROBERT MAYNARD: DOES DELTA AND ITS SAUDI “NO-JEW”POLICY DESERVA A BOYCOTT?
Does Delta and its Saudi ‘No-Jew’ Fly Policy Deserve a Boycott? Robert Maynard

Delta Airlines has recently announced its intention to welcome the Saudi Arabian Airlines into its “Sky Team” alliance.  The problems associated with this decision have been pointed out in this World Net Daily Article.   The article raises the concern that such a partnership would
“require the American carrier to ban Jews and holders of Israeli passports from boarding flights from New York or Washington bound for Jeddah, prompting outraged accusations of illegal religious discrimination.“
According to the article:
“The issue, which has caught the attention of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) already, was raised when Washington attorney Jeffrey Lovitky was perusing airline procedures for travel.“
Mr. Lovitky’s concern was echoed by Colby M. May, director and senior counsel of the ACLJ:

“As we learn more about the issue and facts, we are determined to ensure that American citizens do not face discrimination by airlines like Delta that are passenger code-sharing with Saudi Arabian Airline.”
ACLJ plans to continue their efforts to press this issue:
“We will be communicating our position with members of Congress, the State Department and Delta Air Lines to ensure that the rights of American citizens are protected.”
They have already alerted Delta directly of their concerns in a letter and have received a couple of responses. The initial response did not even bother to deny that such discrimination may be taken place, but shifted the blame to the Saudi Government.  (See copies of the letters in the WND article).
Basically what they are saying is that they have no responsibility in this but are merely complying with the “applicable laws of each country”.  Is there no moral responsibility not to comply with laws that so clearly violate the “Higher Law”, which the U.S. pointed to at the Nuremberg Trials when Nazi war criminals defended their actions by noting that they were merely following orders?  Did not several American individuals and groups organize a boycott of South Africa over the matter of Apartheid?  Is this matter of any less importance than Apartheid was? Clearly, this decision is deeply offensive to all freedom-loving Americans and completely unacceptable. What’s next, women? Yellow Star of David arm bands for certain passengers?
Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy (a “leading American Muslim voice taking back Islam from the demagoguery of the Islamo-fascists”), provided a terrific interview on the Delta Airlines “No-Jew” policy question on Fox and Friends’ popular TV morning show on June 25, 2011. He suggests that Delta, rather than collaborating with the official airline of Saudi Arabia – one of the most oppressive regimes in the world – should instead isolate Saudi Arabian Airlines and not allow them into the Sky Team alliance.  You can view the interview here.

We at the Defenders Council of Vermont would like to suggest that Delta, at a minimum, has a moral obligation to remove Saudi Arabian Airlines from their Sky Team alliance until they denounce any policy that would result in the discrimination of Jews, or any other ethnic, religious, or other human group.  A decent respect for the dignity of each individual human person demands at least that much.  Furthermore, we would like to suggest that, should Delta choose to continue its current course, all Americans of conscience boycott them until they see the light.
