Obama Claims Al Qaeda Takeover in Iraq Caused by his Foreign Policy, Proves his Foreign Policy Right

While the White House is focusing on the awesome magic of Obama’s first Tumblr and the meme they’re desperately trying to push, the First Kid had to take some time out to address a serious issue caused by the time he tried to pretend that Iraq was no longer a problem because he decided to ignore it.

At least he hasn’t blamed Al Qaeda’s rampage across Iraq on…

1. Global Warming

2. Income Inequality

…yet. I’m sure that will be the hot talking point on Slate/Salon/Atlantic/New Republic/HuffPo/MSNBC shortly.

Anyway Obama is finally springing into action after years of ignoring Al Qaeda’s rise in Iraq after his botched withdrawal. And he’s considering all options.

Like the option to do nothing. Or roll out a hashtag. Or credit himself for his foresight in claiming that the disaster caused by his policy of pretending Al Qaeda in Iraq no longer existed.

But first his team is trying to figure out how to help. They’re still trying to figure out how to help Ukraine. And they’re still wondering whether they can do anything for Pompei after the volcano went off.

“So my team is working around the clock to identify how we can provide the most effective assistance to them.  I don’t rule out anything, because we do have a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foothold in either Iraq or Syria, for that matter. “

The J-word. That’s a slip.

“The last point I’ll make — what’s happened over the last couple of days I think underscores the importance of the point that I made at my West Point speech:  the need for us to have a more robust regional approach to partnering and training partner countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa.  We’re not going to be able to be everywhere all the time, but what we can do is to make sure that we are consistently helping to finance, train, advise military forces with partner countries, including Iraq, that have the capacity to maintain their own security.  And that is a long and laborious process, but it’s one that we need to get started.

“That’s part of what the Counterterrorism Partnership Fund that I am going to be calling for Congress to help finance is all about, giving us the capacity to extend our reach without sending U.S. troops to play Whac-A-Mole wherever there ends up being a problem in a particular country.  That’s going to be more effective.”

Let’s sum up.

Obama is claiming that the collapse of the Iraqi military trained by the US is proof that he’s right that we should rely more on training foreign armies to fight terrorists.

It’s like the time he used the bankruptcy of the Green Energy companies he sent taxpayer money to as proof we should send taxpayer money to Green Energy companies.

The magic of the Obamaspeak is that failure is proof that failure works.

1. Obama keeps insisting that counterterrorism partnerships are some magical new idea that he came up last week which Congress hates.

2. He’s using the collapse of a military we trained to argue that relying on foreign armies that we train is the way to go.

This is weapons grade stupidity and nuclear chutzpah.

After years of ignoring Al Qaeda in Iraq, its takeover of entire cities is proof that Obama was right all along to ignore it.
