Does MSNBC’s Ed Schultz really believe the nonsense that he spouts? His never-ending rants that anyone disagreeing with Obama is a racist are base and irresponsible. Together they form a screed that appears to have no end.
Given this insulting and specious logic, we must presume that if Schultz and the rest of his cohorts disagree with Deneen Borelli, author of Blacklash: How Obama and the Left Are Driving Americans to the Government Plantation, or Thomas Sowell, author of Black Rednecks, White Liberals, or Larry Elder, author of Stupid Black Men, or Shelby Steele, author of White Guilt, or for that matter any black conservative, then, they, too, are racists. After all, that is the phony logic of Schultz’s accusations.
This counterfeit racism is now playing itself out with Al Sharpton, who on June 20, 2012 opined that the contempt charges against Eric Holder are based not on any subversion of the Constitution, but instead on an extended version of “Stopped and Frisked.” Thus, the latest dreck from Sharpton is as follows:
The highest officer of law and order in this nation has been ridiculed, scapegoated and handled as some sort of criminal throughout this ‘investigation.’ Turning over thousands of documents and overextending himself, AG Holder was spoken to and mistreated as if he were a child, and reminded that despite his esteemed position, he can and would be profiled. AG Holder was in essence ‘stopped & frisked’ without probable cause, and after he cooperated, he was made an example of. What Issa just showed us is that no matter what our stature in this world, someone can easily try to ‘put us in our place.’ What could be more outrageous?
Mychal Massie at World Net Daily is more than “glad” to explain what could be more outrageous. Massie writes, “[W]hat greater crimes are there than murder, a government-sponsored illegal enterprise that results in murder and an attempt to subvert the Constitution of the United States by those sworn to uphold and defend it?” Massie asserts that the Fast and Furious investigation “is not about race — and shame on Sharpton for attempting to make it so. How dare [Sharpton] use race as a ploy to prevent Holder from cooperating with Congress[?]”
But, of course, in the world of Al Sharpton, provocateur par excellence, claiming racial animosity is second nature. Race-baiting is a pastime with Sharpton, who in 2003 characterized Republicans as racists who “cut taxes for the rich while [they] strangle the poor”; he likened black Republicans Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice to subservient “house slaves.”
Sadly, “Ed Schultz and MSNBC’s Sewer of Hate” are an example of “defining media deviancy downward.” Clearly Schultz has no idea of the history of Republicans truly fighting for the civil rights of black citizens in this country. He needs to bone up on this information, which is succinctly listed at this site of the National Black Republican Association.
Then there is HBO host Bill Maher accusing Matt Drudge of “subliminal racism” because Drudge highlights anti-Obama stories at his well-known internet site. Willie Brown, San Francisco’s mayor, was asked by MSNBC’s Chris Matthews if Darrell Issa’s treatment of Eric Holder was “ethnic,” and Brown stated that it was. In light of these racially motivated charges, Michael Barone of National Review maintains that:
What’s remarkable about our politics in 2008 and today is that most voters seem to be making their decisions based on their assessment of the issues and the character of the candidates. The fact that some have, at least for the moment, moved away from supporting Obama to opposing him … reflects not an increase in racism, but the fact that we simply have more information than we had four years ago.
And finally, the pièce de résistance is another MSNBC host named Melissa Harris-Perry, who “shared an interesting progressive perspective on [America’s] response to the 9/11 attacks: namely, that they gave the United States the opportunity to once again wreak ‘horrific racial violence’ against an imaginary enemy.”
Harris-Perry maintains that “Americans in part identify who we are, and who deserves what, through our notions of whiteness and of the racial enemies that are the non-whites.” So, like so many of her liberal colleagues, she sees everything “through the distorting lenses of race and anti-Americanism.”
Consequently, in the world of inverted beliefs as exemplified by these people, if you find the ideas and actions of a black Caucasian president dangerous to the well-being of this country, you are a racist.
On the other hand, if you find the ideas and actions of a black Caucasian conservative citizen objectionable, you are a liberal media celebrity and would never be accused of being a racist.
To quote Ayn Rand, “reason is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be conquered by it[.]” These progressive/liberal hosts simply “evade reality, but [eventually] we cannot evade the consequences of evading reality”1.
We must start calling these media misrepresenters out. They are destroying the information age with their hate-filled messages. Noel Sheppard of NewsBusters wonders how Americans feel about Comcast and General Electric, the owners of MSNBC, supporting their own commentators for calling a large percentage of Americans racist.
The expression “calling the kettle black” refers to being a hypocrite. Thus, Schultz and his ilk will blame someone else for allegedly being a racist when, in fact, it is they who are the racists, since race, not hard facts, is the overriding feature of all their arguments.
And I guess my use of the idiom now makes me a racist in their world!
