HANG IN THERE RICK! ALICIA COLON

So I get this email from Chris Christie telling me that this is the most important election in generations and why I need to vote for Mitt Romney because he’s the best chance we have of defeating Obama in 2012. Why is the governor of New Jersey pushing Romney at me?  For that matter why are Bill Kristol and others in the GOP elite urging me to pick him in the GOP primary races?  The latest poll shows that Herman Cain, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry can beat the president by several points so why the urgent endorsements when the debates aren’t even over yet? I wasn’t planning to vote for Romney before and I’m not ready to do so now and it has nothing to do with his religion.

With the exception of Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman, the remaining GOP roster is quite strong and with the exception of Mitt Romney none are RINOs. The economy is a mess and every Republican candidate has a good idea on how to fix it, but what scares me about Romney is that he isn’t addressing the part the environmental fascists play with taxpayer funds. What we don’t need are more Solyndras, First Solars, Sun Powesrs and other faux energy money burners.

In a June, 2011 N.H. town hall meeting, Mitt Romney reaffirmed his position on humanity’s fault for global warming:

“But I believe the world’s getting warmer. I can’t prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that … so I think it’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you’re seeing.”

Both Herman Cain and Rick Perry have expressed disdain for the global warming advocates and in Tuesday’s debate, Rick Perry advocated opening up our own oil and natural gas resources which will reduce our dependency on foreign oil. It is a fact that we do have more oil than all of the Middle East and the stranglehold that the militant environmentalists have on our economy is disgraceful and needs to end.

Rick Perry is not a smooth debater nor is he glib, but after the last presidential election we should all be very wary of smooth operators and instead look at accomplishments. Mario Cuomo was a very accomplished orator but one of the worst governors New York State ever had.

I also know that Perry did not take advantage of openings in the debate but the definition of a clever remark is something that you think of 15 minutes after you had the chance to say it.

Mitt Romney’s riposte to Perry’s criticism of Romneycare was that Massachusetts had the highest insured rate and Texas had the lowest. Considering that Texas also has a much higher rate of illegal immigrants flooding its borders and taxing the state resources, Perry should have pointed out the difference but he didn’t get a chance because every debate moderator so far is partial to Romney.

Just about every mainstream media source is heralding the demise of the Perry campaign and straight thinking voters should wonder why he’s getting the Palin treatment. The tea party is also being called dead and buried in the media.

I happen to like Herman Cain and I appreciate his debating skills and if he were to win the GOP nomination I would vote for him with more enthusiasm than I would for Romney. However I do have doubts that he would be able to significantly change our bureaucracy. The president is not a CEO and to change the way our taxes are structured would require congressional legislation. Unless we manage to oust the Democrats from influencing any proposed bills, his 9-9-9 is dead in the water. Cain is also a survivor of colon and liver cancer so his health should be considered as well.

Rick Perry is not a perfect candidate but he has ten years of executive experience and strong conservative values no matter how his immigration stance is being distorted. His options in governing have been hampered by federal oversight but as president, he would appreciate State’s Rights to self-govern.

There’s something telling about a man who can shoot a threatening coyote dead with a side arm that invokes memories of Sarah Palin shooting moose for dinner. As president he wouldn’t be apologizing for being an American so he’s got my vote. Hang in there, Rick.
