MORE PERRY BASHING ON THE SUBJECT OF ISLAM

HMMM…PERRY’S OBSESSIVE CRITICS ON THE SUBJECT OF ISLAM ARE, TO QUOTE ROBERT CONQUEST, “IMPENETRABLE BY FACTS”…… HERE ARE SOME OF THE COMMENTS THAT FOLLOWED ANDREW BOSTOM’S COLUMN ON PERRY, THE ISMAILIS AND BOSTOM’S RESPONSE:

“And I stand by my conclusion–if a politician were to deal with ANY Muslims–better a minority, and a more progressive sect than either mainstream Sunnis or Shia.

Fyzee was an Ismaili icon. Qaradawi remains a Sunni icon; and the deceased Khomeini remains a mainstream Shia icon. There is a difference. It may not change IslamBut that certainly isn’t Perry’s fault, or frankly as far as I can tell, the fault of the Ismailis…”

ROBERT SPENCER
So let me get this straight: an obscure Ismaili intellectual decried “fanaticism,” and therefore it is just fine that the Aga Khan invested $40 million in Syria, a state sponsor of terrorism? An obscure Ismaili intellectual decried “tyrannical government” in Islam, and therefore it is just fine that the Aga Khan curriculum for Texas schools, approved by Rick Perry, is a total whitewash of Islam and jihad, and relies on such compromised pseudo-academics as John Esposito and Carl Ernst? Mr. Bostom’s faith in David Stein and Amil Imani is touching, but both are purveying false information about that curriculum, passing off one teacher’s lesson plan as the official curriculum and ignoring the actual official material, which has been scrubbed from the web (why?) but can be found here: http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad… For Mr. Bostom to pass off such concerns as “hysteria” without examination or substantive refutation does not speak well of his abilities as a scholar, or of his fair-mindedness.
RIVERDAN WITH FACTS ABOUT PERRY
Mr. Spencer, Governor Perry did not invest that money in Syria, the Aga Khan did. And the money was invested in “microfinance, healthcare, and cultural tourism” — projects that help the Syrian population and foster democracy. The US currently exports food and medicine to Syria and Israel exports fruit to Syria. The Aga Khan and his family are dedicated to humanitarian works. His sister raises millions for Alzheimer’s disease (in honor of Ronald Reagan), his wife was in Israel, invited by Shimon Peres for a program to teach peace and tolerance to Israeli and Palestinian children, and his hospital in Nairobi hosted an emergency drill for the UN in collaboration with the Israeli Embassy. As AT reader CrazyOtto (who worked with the Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce and the Aga Khan Foundation) wrote two weeks ago: the Ismailis are “hard working, loyal, patriotic Americans with extremely tolerant views when it comes to religion…Their commitment to helping the poor throughout the Middle East, Africa and Asia is very remarkable…”As for Rick Perry, he HAS invested millions in one Middle East country:  Israel! Since he has been an elected official, the Texas Treasury has invested $20 million in State of Israel Bonds. And since Perry founded the Texas-Israel Exchange (1991) and Texas-Israel Chamber of Commerce (2007) billions of dollars in research and trade have benefitted Americans and Israelis. And to quote CrazyOtto again, “Israel has no better friend than Perry.”
