BLOCK THE AID: ADRIENNE PRICE

The Obama administration decided to reward the terrorist organization and Iran proxy Hamas by giving them millions of dollars in aid. Given a trillion dollar annual budget deficit, America will borrow the money from the Chinese in order to reward the hostility of the Islamists in Gaza. America digs itself a deeper financial hole in order to give chocolates and concrete to a government sworn to destroy Israel, the U.S. and Western values. Congress should block the aid to Hamas by not appropriating these funds.

Who in the White House decided that the only thing that stands between a docile Hamas and warriors sworn to spread Islamic fundamentalism is a payoff? Which brave souls in the State Department will be volunteering to take delivery of the aid in Gaza and supervise construction of new housing, or roads or tunnels to smuggle arms? Will the new Gaza missile depot built with our concrete be named after President Obama?

Exactly what did Hamas do to earn the aid from the U.S? Maybe somewhere in Washington and in Gaza City there is a top-secret agreement with Hamas to stop their state of war with Israel, stop demonizing the U.S. in schools and in their media, sever their relationship with Iran, release Gilad Shalit and put all their energy and resources into building a life for their citizens. I doubt it. It is more likely that Hamas did nothing good and the American citizens who are footing the bill will get nothing back other than throwing borrowed money into a broken territory and more debt. Spreading the wealth appears to extend to a little terrorist state on the Mediterranean.

President Obama said the situation in Gaza is unsustainable, and he is right. 1.5 million people live in Gaza, which is about the size of a dime. Israel hasn’t had any internal involvement in Gaza since Israel uprooted all Jews and withdrew from all Gaza settlements in 2005. Egypt has no interest in having Gaza returned, especially since its population has been radicalized over the past 4 decades. The West should have written off Gaza after its citizens destroyed viable greenhouse businesses gifted to them by American philanthropists when the Israelis vacated their homes and Hamas became the sheriff in town.

The problem with Gaza is not just that it is run by terrorists in one of the most densely populated areas on earth: The dirty little secret about Gaza is that it can never be economically viable. Gaza is destined to be a welfare state forever – Islamist or not. What exactly does the free world think the residents of Gaza will do to earn a living? Even if they had survived the land transfer, a few greenhouses are not enough to make Gaza economically independent. The world ignores reality when it talks about an independent Gaza. Even if the Founding Fathers governed Gaza, they would have a big problem. They couldn’t support themselves.

Unfortunately, Hamas terrorists who rule over all aspects of daily life govern Gaza. Hamas determines how aid is distributed, who has jobs and homes, what local schools teach and what acts are contrary to the strictest interpretations of Sharia law. Those who cooperate with Hamas are rewarded and those who dissent are harassed and executed.

Hamas does not govern in a vacuum. They are BFF’s with the Mullahs in Iran and with Hezbollah. Evidently, they make Recep Erdogan happy also. The Turks now thumb their collective noses at the EU as they become more Islamist and join the extremists in the escalating international effort to delegitimize Israel. Every dollar the U.S. gives Hamas in Gaza is one fewer dollar the Europeans, or the Turks or even Iran need to give Hamas. So, why are we making payments to help Iran and Hamas?

When Mahmoud Abbas sat with President Obama as he announced the U.S. would be giving aid to Gaza, Abbas could not have thought that Haniyeh would send him a thank you note for blessing the deal. It is like the mob on the west side of town blessing payola given by the mayor to their mob rivals on the east side of town. All the west side mob wants is to run the east side, even if they have to rub out their rival bosses.

The West Bank’s Jordanian Palestinians are a world away from the Gaza’s Egyptian Palestinians. They are the same country like Pakistan and Bangladesh are the same country. For the world to propose one Palestinian country with a tunnel to join them is really to propose the death of Israel. One country is as likely as Connecticut and New Jersey deciding they are really one state and building a bridge to join them through New York. Sounds stupid when thinking about Connecticut and New Jersey, yet the world persists in pretending a Palestinian state joining the West Bank and Gaza is realistic.

President Obama said the situation is unsustainable, and he is right. It is unsustainable to continue the folly that a Palestinian State joining the West Bank and Gaza can be a functioning state. It is folly to assume that Gaza could ever be a functioning independent entity. It is quite realistic to assume the Palestinian cause is being used by the world in order to wear down Israel until it no longer exists.

The Muslim countries know this. The Europeans know this. And now, President Obama says the current situation is unsustainable. Rather than support Israel and weaken the terror-sponsored entity Hamas, President Obama has voted with the American purse to strengthen Hamas timed exactly when Israel is under assault by the entire world. President Obama has decided to either enable the fantasy of a possible functioning entity in Gaza or he has decided that Israel’s enemies must be supported. Either choice does not bode well for the Jewish state.

If the President will not stand up against Hamas then Congress should. Congress should block funding for aid to the terrorists in Gaza.
