Heinous Beating of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s Chief Campaign Fundraiser

Center, Allee Bautsch

Reports are surfacing of the brutal beating of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s chief campaign fundraiser, Allee Bautsch and her boyfriend, Joe Brown Friday night shortly after leaving a fundraising event. Bautsch escaped with a broken leg and Brown with a concussion and broken nose. Jindal’s office released a very terse statement on the event which only affirmed that the attack did take place and was not forthcoming with many details. The extent of the couple’s injuries are atypical of a robbery or mugging.

It is widely speculated that the attack was politically motivated. Earlier on the day of the fundraiser, there was a large protest against the South Republican Leadership Conference happening that weekend, although the demonstration (which involved some violent undertones against Republicans — here is a picture of a poster from one of the primary organizers which depicts a dead, skeletal elephant, for instance) apparently disbanded some time before the attack took place. There were initially reports that Bautsch claimed assailants said, “Let’s get them, they have Palin pins on.” However, Human Events has confirmed with Jindal’s office that the pair were not wearing Palin pins. Hayride of Louisiana has been covering the story extensively.

We don’t yet know if the attacks were, in fact, politically motivated. We really should reserve judgement until all the facts are in (to set a good example for the liberal press, you know.) All we can say is the circumstances are highly suspicious and the event, tragic.

If you’re interested, here is lots of video of the protest (from an “indy” source.) I especially enjoy this video of a young black man saluting the parade of unkempt hippies with the emblematic “black power” clenched fist. Yes — looks like you’re really defying the Man’s bourgeois expectations with your pressed shirt and tie there, buddy. This video is apparently of protesters going “Onward to Brennan’s” which is precisely the establishment Bautsch and her boyfriend were leaving before the attack.
